Ahh the pacifier

posted 4th Oct
Yeahh Lily is 1 now! Yay!
She still uses her pacifier a LOT. How old were your youngins when they stopped using them or you took them away? And any tips on how to get her to not want it anymore?
Shes been off the bottle for like 2 months already and that was easy but this I dont know how to do it. Im really dreading it because she already has problems sleeping alone and I can't imagine her sleeping without it.

I'm a beliver in cold turkey. After each of my childrens first birthdays.. the next day bam it was just gone. Spent a couple days of crying. But that was it. over and done with.
Some people like to just use it at nap time and bed time, wean slowly that way. Just try what works best for you.

My nephew had his till he was 3- that is too long if you ask me. They finally got sick of him trying to talk with it in and not being able to understand him and cut him off cold turkey.

My son hung on to his bottle-just one bottle, till a week before he was two. He just needed it to go to sleep easier, but I actually made him throw it away in the garbage. He still brings it up to this day.
What about making the paci only fur use in her crib? make her put it in there when she is ready to go out and play, leaving it at home.
I've heard of other moms cutting the sucking part off and letting her realize it is 'broken' then have her throw it away.
Telling her that they are for babies and making it a gift to a friends new baby.

see if giving her a sippy cup at bedtime instead of the paci works

I guess when their thst young go cold turkey! If their older you can do cool things like"giving" them to a hospital for the babies, or having them plant them in a pot and when they wake up the next day you have replaced the nuk with a little plant/tree and a toy of something they really like!

I was just thinking about making a post about this. My daughter will be 15 months next week, and she is so attached to hers. I don't think I'm going to do cold turkey. I think I'm going to start putting it up during the day, and letting her have it at night. I don't feel right taking away something she uses for comfort during the night when I am not there with her just yet. I think by the time she is 2 I will take it away all together...

Hailey is 16 months old and still uses a paci..

She needs it to sleep ..and its a calming device during the day..she can HOURs w/out it but then gets fussy and wants it back.

I was given phamplets at the dentist office and I'm pretty sure they said it was important to take away between 2-3yrs old.

My best friend's lil girl didn't use a lovie or a blankie assecurity devive..she used a paci until she was 5yrs old. She threw it away on her own the night before she started school

I'm not sure when I will take it away from Hailey...I don't like that she uses during the day..but its the only way to calm her or stop the whining.
