infant asthma?

posted 4th Oct
Alright ladies... Im starting to feel like a paranaoid mommy. My son had a rash on his back so I took him in to the doctor. They asked about our family's history of asthma and I didnt know Kyle's, but on my side I just have an Aunt with it. So they didnt check anything about it and said he probably just has dermatitis. We've done everything they have reccomended for the dermatitus, and it has imroved a lot! But, in the past few days Kyle and I have noticed Maverick wheezing a lot. He coughs a little bit, but not frequently... I kinda feel like taking him back and having him checked out for asthma, the other part of me feels like Im just being paranoid... I dont know.

No. We are a totally non smoking household.

My son has asthma that is induced by severe colds, we first discovered this when he was 14 months old so I don't know if that still qualifies as infant asthma. But I think they mentioned the asthma even tho u were there for a rash because eczema and asthma have a tendency to go hand in hand. My son had eczema on his head and face from about 4 mos on (we used to think it was just really bad craddle cap). My son's pedi (specializes in asthma) says that the way to tell if the wheezing is due to asthma is if you noticed that they seem to really be using their stomach (dramatically) to get their lungs to inhale and exhale. Also if you notice that it seems like they are using their neck muscless and collar bone area to breath as well. You would also notice that their seems to be a big indrawing around the rib cage with each breath. If you're worried I would def say get it checked out, I always have a hard time telling the difference between him having trouble with a little cold or getting flegm out of his throat and a wheeze. Fortunately (I guess), my husband has also had asthma and can always tell the difference so I just rely on him.

What about cats? Do you have any? They are a big cause of asthma because of the pet dander

Thank you! Thats really helpful. I think Im just going to watch him real close the next couple days to see if it goes away... I'll def. be checking for those signs!

No... thats what is also really strange. We are smoke and pet free (besides some fish and a turtle)... I just cant understand what is causing the wheeze!

i had ashtma since i was a baby..soo i know the signs...and i didnt panick...when he sucks in air..watch his little belly..and if u could see his ribs..right by his belly button....he is struggling to breath.i would take him in..and when my son got older i would do the same thing..and make him talk...if he could only say 2 or 3 words.. i would bring him in...and i always packed an overnite bag..cause i know they would keep him

Aww, I'm sorry! =( The reason I asked is because my nephew's mother smoked a couple of months while she was pregnant and they had cats and people were constantly smoking around my nephew when he was first born and he developed asthma because of it, he had to have breathing treatments every night and they wondered why he got asthma...she's such a bad mother, it makes me so sad! I hope he feels better! Hopefully it's just the change in weather or something causing it, poor baby!

He may have alergies sp? that can cause the weezeing. When mydaughter getscolds she starts to weeze because it has only happened twice they will not say she has asthma. For the rash have you changed clothes soap, bath wash, lotion. My daughter also has eczema and her, myself and my husband have to use free and clean clothes soap, She could not use any bath wash or lotion untiil she was 14 mos and now she can only use aveeno and huggies bath wash. If someone holds her that does not use free and clear she will break out. If he is weezeing he needs to see a doctor. They may want to give him a breathing treatment to help him out. Also if its been windy or cold that may be causeing the weezeing to. My daughter can go in the wind or cold because she will start to cough and weeze.
