hey everyone , well my day was going good ,im at my moms visiting and my aunt shows up , i tell her hi and everything and she just comes out and tells me she thinks i should reconsider what i name my daughter , she says Willow is an evil name im cursing her by naming her that, that she will be satanic and everything like that , she kept tryna get me to change it saying how i found a pretty unconventional name for my son why cant i find a pretty one for her, she also said that if i do name her Willow that no one in the family will call her by it they will just call her by her middle name Michelle. this just upset me so much, and this is not the first time i heard this my mom said my grandma said the same thing and my mom and sisters say its ugly, im just so pissed and im not the confrontational type and im already hurting been having braxton hicks like crazy, i want to say something but i just went down stairs to my sis apt went and locked myself in my nephews room , my hubby is pissed because the name willow is very specail to him, told them that but they dont care, he wants to leave work earlyto give them a piece of his mind , he said he dont want them there when shes born or to come see her aferwards that they are not allowed in his home , and im also thinking about canceling my babyshower , i dont want to have to deal with them all at once . sorry for the long vent just had to get it out need to calm myself down dont need to stress the baby

For all its worth, i think willow is a pretty name. Besides she is your daughter. Some of my family and a lot of my bf's family do not like my daughters middle name, but it has meaning to me and is special to me, so forget what they think

I think Willow is a beautiful name. Always makes me think of Billie Holiday, singing "Willow Weep For Me."   Also, there was a huge willow tree in my front yard when I was little.

I had a friend years ago who said that her mom was terrified of weeping willow trees because "witches live in them." I guess there's some old related superstition...maybe that's where the "evil name" thing came from.

It's awfully silly to ruin such a good name by associating it with evil beings that don't even exist. Name your daughter whatever you want.

btw, I love "Zander" too.

My husband's name is Alexander, but he's been called Zandy since he was a baby. We're both 32 and it used to be a really odd name...now Zander is kind of popular, and I love it!

I love the name Willow!! It's your child, name her what you want. When they had children they got to name their own. They should be hoping the baby it healthy and not getting so worked up about the name. We had our names picked out very early in our pregnancy. But, didn't tell a sole the names. A lot of people asked but we said we hadn't decided yet!

That's what we're doing too. We haven't actually decided for sure on a first name, but we've had a middle name for months, and since she was conceived, we've known what her nickname is. We would totally just give her that name, but we've decided to give her a "real" name instead, so she has something non-ridiculous to put on her resume when she's an adult. But even if we decide tonight, nobody gets to know what it is until she's born. And nobody knows what we call her.

that's really cool. i wish we had done that. i got so tired of everyone telling us what we SHOULD name our own baby, as opposed to what we chose

Like the others have said, she's your baby and you and her father are the only ones who get ANY say in naming her. If they call her Michelle correct them EVERY single time, eventually your daughter will be old enough to correct them herself and then how foolish will they feel?

I think that Willow is a beautiful name. I also think that Zander is a great name for a boy. Don't let your family or anyone else tell you what to name your children. You're the oven for this bun, so name her as you wish. Willow trees are gorgeous and I have two growing in pots in my backyard for when my husband and I get our own place. His childhood home had a willow tree in the backyard and he said that he was so sad when it died. Maybe your grandma just remembers being bad and having to "get a switch" from a willow tree!

Then that's all that matters. The name is significant to the two of you. Who cares that your relatives don't like it? Too bad, I'm sure they can get over it when they meet the kid. Some people...
