born free / dr browns vs playtex drop ins???

posted 3rd Oct
hey ladies, im confused about which bottles to get & i was hoping for some advice....
i heard good things about the born free & dr browns bottles - but also heard they are hard to clean & they are kinda expensive.
i also heard/read good things about the playtex drop in system .

i am planning on BFing but i do need to pump & dad to give him bottles when im at work & stuff....

i just wanna get good bottles that wont give him gas lol ... oh, and ones that will obviously support me BFing w/ the nipple flow & what not...

any one tried one vs another? or found one to be better than the other?
thanks

The only bottles my family would buy for my baby shower were dr browns... lots of babies on my family and they are dead set on dr browns.

I used the playtex drop ins w/ all my children. They did great w/ them. Some babies prefer a different nipple, so get one thats close to your nipple.

When I had my son, I had a hard time breasfeeding and he needed to eat while in the hospital and the lactation consultant theregave us an Avent bottle to feed him and said that the nipple shape supported breasfeeding. My son had bad gas in the beginning but after switching formulas, it got better and we are still using the Avent bottles.
I know a few people who use the playtex drop ins and they go back and forth between breasfeeding easily with them. They also use the playtex ventaire bottles occasionally. We tried the drop-ins but my son doesn't seem to like those nipples so we went back to Avent even though they are pretty pricey too.
Good luck!!

Honestly you don't really save money going with the drop ins... you have to buy the bags

so since youve tried those ones, you can just buy diff nipples for them? they dont have to be like a special playtex kind or anything?
i know its a dumb question, but i really dont know any of this stuff... sorry

i have dr.browns bottle and bron free bottles. the born free one is expensive and useless for helping gas, hate it!!but it looks good. i switched to dr.browns and they do reduce gas! i dont think cleaning is difficult just two more parts.

oh yea , the dr.browns bottle leaks only if u fill above the line.

I love dr browns bottles. They are also cheaper then born free. I nursed my daughter for 17 mos and she had no problems going from breast to dr browns. They are not that hard to clean they have have a few more parts to clean which some people dont like. MY sisters both use dr browns for their kids it was the only bottle to help one with gas problems and the other had a son with really bad reflex and it helped him so much (better then drop ins).

Hi,
I started using drop ins when my son was 2 month old as a support to give him my milk when I was out at school and work, but all of a sudden my son stopped taking my breast after getting used to the drop ins system ( he was taking the slow flow nipple) because it gave him more flow from when he is breastfeeding. I hope that no one would go through what i went through. other than that they are great bottles easy to clean and excellent when your on the go. good luck

I used Born Free bottles and loved them! They are also free of the chemical BPA. I'm a member of itsamomthing.com andhappen to read aboutthe checmical BPAwhile on the site. It supposedly can cause cancer and its in many baby bottles.

I think theBorn Free bottlesare sold at Babies r us but I found them at bornfree.com.
