How do I make teeth-brushing easier?

posted 2nd Oct
Hello everyone! This is my very first time posting in the "toddler" boards. My little baby girl just turned one on Tuesday so I guess that means she's a toddler?

I'm still a lil confused about that one.

Anyway, how do I make brushing her teeth easier? She fights me EVERYTIME! Any pointers would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I've never experienced toothbrushing with a toddler, but I work with people with disabilities, and when someone is tactile sensitive (dislikes touch), we would count to ten as we brushed their teeth...Ten times in each area...That way they always knew what to expect...

I've read things about letting them brush your teeth first...

But I remember that my mom would sing me this toothbrushing song..."Up like the flowers, down like the rain..Round and round like a choo-choo train"...I bet the "brush your teeth" song would work, too...

Good luck!!!

I had the same issue with my daughter. She is barely 15 months and VERY independent, she wants to do everything herself. So I bought an extra toothbrush that is "hers". So while I'm brushing her teeth she helps me and does it too. She pretty much just bites on the one she uses, but she feels like such a big girl helping me. It can get tricky trying to get a toothbrush in while she is doing them herself, but it definitely can be done. Now I just have to figure out how to wash her hair without her screaming and flailing around every time!!! lol.

Averi is the same way! We just got her her own and she loves it. We hand her it after every tubby while she's gets dried up and after she chews on it for a minute or so daddy gives her a quick brushing and then give it back to her to chew on. We also added atiny bit(like a smear if that) of toothpaste on it and she really enjoys that. Good luck!
Ryleighsmomma, if you ever come up with the hair washing solution let me know. We have the same problem. lol.
