Who wants to come pee on my rug?? (Bissel Product Review)
posted 2nd Oct
Lo and behold, the day came when I had to work late, and hubby didn't make it home in time for puppy. (I SAY puppy, I mean 6 year old middle aged dog) He is normally very good about not peeing or pooping inside, but last night poor baby didnt have a choice.
Daddy was pissed of course, but I asked him what if he were cooped up for 12 hours with no where to poop (or pee)? You'd piss yourself too right.
My husband shoots back "But the poop, where does it all come from? He pooped this morning!"
Um yeah, mister I poop 4 times a day, give the mutt a break. He already thinks we are going to banish him. Poor thing saw me walk in, tucked his tail between his legs, and ran off into a corner and gave me the saddest "I'm sorry mom" eyes.
So onto problem two. Cleanup. You see he didnt just poop and pee in one spot. Rather in about 6 different spots throughout the apartment. (And who the hell pees green???) Anyway normally, we'd spray some resolve and wipe it up. But we have a 1 year old wandering, and eating off that floor, and also mashing other things into it. Resolve is not going to cut it. We need some power.
So late about 11 PM last night we decide we need a household steam cleaner. I know it sounds excessive, and neat freakish. I mean how many people do you know that own a steam cleaner? Most think a vacuum is enough. But picturing my kids crawling around in pee motivated me to jump the line.
So I got to thinking this morning, before I bought one, what I want in a steam cleaner. We live in an apartment, so a heafty upright is out. And we shouldn't really need to steam a whole room, just spot clean. I opted for a handheld.
Pet stains were a problem for us, so I checked out the options. I want clean carpet, I donnt want smell, or see pee. I wanted to grab the cheapest thing on the shelf, but something about a tank heater, and a turbo brush won me over.
I purchase the Bissel Little Green Pro-Heat Turbo-Brush Pet. I already own a Bissel vacuum, so the brand I liked. My vacuum has a turbo brush too, and it gets the junk out of all those little couch crevices. You probably still want to go cheap, but it was only $20 more than the basic. The tank is small, so the heater is great, it even heats the water hotter than the tap for better cleaning. Please don't go cheap! I nabbed the steam cleaner, a bottle of solution (not knowing it comes with two bottles itself) and a coke for $117 at wal-mart. Why the coke? A much deserved treat for getting down on my hands and knees to scrub up dog pee...
So I get it home, put the daughter to bed, banish the dog to the balcony until the mess is cleaned, and go about setting up my new steam cleaner. I expected it to be painstaking, but it was actually very easy and I was steaming in about 10 minutes! By page 4 of the manual, I was ready to go.
Now to see what this little thing can do, because at this point I am not sure a small cleaner will match the power of the largeer ones. By all means I was impressed. I did have to do three rounds of scrubbing, but my carpet came back from green to beige. There was a lot of pee in the machines defense. I recommend suctioning up excess pee before spraying to save some time.
After getting the pee up, I was so excited and impressed, I had to find more spots to clean!! So I went around finding varoius spills, and smashed in cereal bar spots that never came up all the way. to my suprise my carpet was like new! It did leave a few faint pink stains, but the smashed in cereal bar was old too.
It did take a little elbow grease, but I was suprised at how easy and effective it was. My carpet no longer fears toppling sippy cups, or dancing puppy feet. (What? Don't act like you dog doesn't do the pee pee dance too)
And while thinking about ease, I was surprised to know that if you buy the version with the tank heater, you can store it ready to use! In 30 seconds it is hot and rady to go! Although you do need to make sure to empty and clean the dirty water tank after each use. The cleaning solution is $10 a bottle, for about a laundry soap sized bottle, but you only need 8 ounces to make a tank of water, and one tank did every spot in my living room, plus around my trash can, and the pad from my daughters pack-n-play (the dog isn't the only one who pees on crap) I even steamed my couch pillows, since the washer mis-shapes them.
I LOVE this machine, I don't know how I ever lived without it. I feel like my house was disgusting, and now it's sterile. I am thrilled.
Any one else who has one of these, I would LOVE to hear what you think
