Essure??? New type of tubal...

posted 1st Oct
So, I talked to my doctor this morning and she asked what type of birth control I want after I deliver and I said I wanted my tubes tied. So she recommended this new procedure whichis non-surgical but effective and permanent.

http://www.essure.com/

Has anyone here heard of this before?? Better yet, has anyone here done this procedure?? I'm just looking for opinions, testimonials, something to help me decide...

Thanks!

There is a girl at my apartment building that did it and was VERY enthusiastic telling me her story. She said it was great and only a little bit of cramps that day. They gave her valium to make her woozy and went in vaginally. They did a sonogram after 3 months to make sure that she built up the scar tissue to block her tubes, and that was it!

My doctor doesn't do it, but I think I might try and find one that does and do it that way, if my insurance covers it. I'm not thrilled about going under general and doing the whole tubal ligation procedure.

Yes, My dr told me some and I have been reading the website. You just go in for a dr visit, she puts it in then you go to a radiologist 3 months later for the confirmation. You have to use another form of birth control during those 3 months (I can handle that after this freakin long lol). I don't want a c-section so I can't get it done then, and I would prefer not to get the laproscopy if possible so I guess this is my option. The website states that this is of course FDA approved but is also the ONLY birth control method with ZERO pregnancies in clinical trials... Well, I guess I will try it out... Got to check my insurance now tho... Supposedly 'most insurances' cover it they say, we shall see...

That was my favorite part "Zero Pregnancies." Especially after reading about all these tubal ligation babies on BG.

Definitely... I mean, the point is NO MORE babies EVER and supposedly this makes that possible. I know I dont want any more and I know Im freakin tired of birth control! I got off it after 7 years when I decided I would like 1 more baby and I dont want to have to go back to it forever.

I have had it done....to one tube, lol. The doctor couldn't find my stubborn left tube, so I had to wait to see the radiologist for the "x-ray". He saw it as soon as he injected the ink into my uterus. Apparently, I didn't have enough of the hormone (I think it's progesterone, but it's the one in the mini pill) and my uterus was "fluffy". It gave the illusion that my tube was either blocked or missing. Anyway, I'm going back in November to get my left side done.

The procedure itself wasn't too bad. It wasn't so much painful as it was uncomfortable. I had very minimum cramping and spottingafter the procedure, then nothing the next day. My right tube is totally blocked, but my left is a different story. Good thing my husband is in Iraq right now, not that it matters since I still have to take the birth control.

No problem. I didn't like the thought of being cut so much, so when I heard of this I thought of it as a godsend.

Yes, thank you very much! I did read something else someone posted saying that she was having it done but her tubes were too narrow for the coils. So, I guess therecould be complications after hearing your experience too. I haven't read anything too serious tho so that's a good thing. I will just hope that my tubes are up for it
