well, this has been a long time coming.

some more fun racists have been hitting the boards in the past 24 hours, saying some very offensive things... giving TDC some fresh hatred and drama for all of us to mull over.


i've been of the conviction that this sort of behavior is best handled as a societal problem-- which each of you can decide to ignore or chastise as you see fit... instead of having me swoop in w/ the bannimator and lop off their heads w/ no repurcussions for their idiocy save not being able to hang out on BG.

that said, we do have people on here who feel that we should be more pro-active in removing racist individuals from bg.

so-- should we ban blatantly racist members?

or would you guys like the opportunity to e-slap them until they leave of their own accord?

personally, i tend not to get involved b/c it all moves too fast for me, but if i were there when the racism errupted, i'd have a fun socratic round of questioning them and showing them to be the fools that they are.

but-- i don't want to be overly stubborn about this, so i'm going to let you guys decide over the next couple of days how we handle racist members.

i think anyone who makes racist comments towards other members should have their account banned for a week or so. After... 3 strikes... they're out and banned for good.

I think we should just make them feel as ignorant as they sound and let them leave on their own. It is more fun to make them look like complete idiots.

Racists exist--and I think it is healthy for them to find out that *most* people don't agree with them (at least not consciously, but that's a different issue).

Since they tend to eventually crawl back under the rocks they came from, I'm of a mind to let them be and to let outraged gaga members deal with the problem.

my first thought was "YES OF COURSE BAN THEM!" but then I started thinking about it. Even if it's not race, there will always be someone stereotyping someone on here, be it their race, their age, their parenting skills....So if you immediately banned over race you'd have to ban over all of it.

I also think the majority of us don't tolerate things like that, and would stick up for someone if we saw something like that.

Well, people do have a right to freedom of speech, but how far is that right allowed before its taken overboard?
I hate alot of white people, but being white myself, does that make me a racist?
Alot of the girls on here hate the pregnant teens, do they get banned for saying they hate children having children?

the thing is, they never back down, and think they are right
so theres nothing we can really say to make them feel dumb
they just come back at you 10x more ignorant

I cant stand the racist members and honestly dont think they should be allowed to have a say in any of the threads. I think they should go find a different website to voice their rude racists comments. It would be nice if they were banned from the site. Thanks mama  

I think that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Baby Gaga is like the real world with real people in it and EVERYDAY you face racism in the real world. There is the ignore button option and I don't think that people use it enough. They could choose to be more pro-active in staying away from the racist people, but they choose to egg it on.

I dont think they should be banned at all. I think that if they stick around a while, they will realize that everyone on this site is not going to put up with their ignorance and move on.
