what will be at the hospital?!?

So I had my first at a birthing center, I left 4 hours after delivery because we were both fine. This time we are doing the hospital... How long do I have to stay there- if I tell them Im ready can I leave? And my BIGGEST fear is they are going to swoop in and take my baby... I didnt have to give up my son to anyone for more then 5 minutes- and all they did that for was to check him out, do the normal tests then bam back on my chest... Im freakin out people I wanna back out and do a home birth.. lol needing some reassurment.

Are you taking a hospital tour? Some things will be the same straight across the board but each hospital is going to have their own policies and guidelines. If you want to have very specific requests followed, you should make a birthing plan and run it by whoever does the tour and your OB before the big day arrives.

U have to wait at least 24 hrs after birth to leave. SO both you and baby are ok'd to leave by a doctor. They wont take your baby if you voice you dont want them too. They do take the baby after a while to bathe it and check breath sounds and the heart rate but thats done in the room.

it really depends on the hospital but with both my kids they plopped them right now my chest, with my second it felt like he was there for a long time. They then took him to do the normal weight check and everything else they do. I then was able to take a shower. With my second I got to eat dinner after the shower since it was after dinner time. They didn't leave my room the whole time I was there except to get circumsized. (sp?)
That's pretty much it, I know some hospitals have nurserys and some dont' but from what I've heard you can choose to have them in the nursery now a days
Oh I stayed there for two days about but normaly they let you leave 24 hours after the baby is born, it's cause they do checks on them every few hours to make sure everything is ok and they've pooped and peed.
I'm sure that if you called the hospital they'd give you a tour, here I had to go and fill out papers ahead of time then they gave me a tour when I asked.
Good luck!

There are certain things that are state mandated, in oregon it's eye drops, hearing exam, a quick heel prick to test for something.. .and one other thing I can't remember. Ask your ob what is mandated in your state, if you're not comfortable with something being done, tell her, and she might have a form for you to sign saying you passed on having it done. They also will not take the baby out of the room if you tell them you don't want them to.

Also the stay is usually a night or two, but legally you can check yourself out. You'll have to sign papers saying that you may be doing it against the advice of a doctor.

With me I had the baby they put him on the my chest right when he was born and then cleaned him up and weighed him and length all that good stuff then they gave him a breast feed and then took him to the nursery with Dad i think...I was druged lol and then I got up after the epi wore off and went to the bath room and then the rolled me in my room which I stayed for 2 night and they would take him once in the mornings to weigh him and right before I left they took him for 5 min. You have a shower and they give you shampoo pads the prettiest underwear (JK) Tooth brush toooth paste towels but take your own it is not the nicest ones lol

I had my little boy at 4.34am in the morning & I was home by 8am the same morning. (So left about 7.30am.) Which means I was there for about 3 hours.

The two L&D nurses I had were awesome if it eases your mind. And that was in different hospitals in different states.

you might be like me, they kicked me out of my room 14 hours after I gave birth because they needed the bed. Dang it.

The nurses I had were pretty nice, I had several though and there was one that really didn't listen to me when my son was in pain from the circumcision but I only had her for a few hours.
They do all that stuff in the room and I'm sure you'll be able to get up and see your baby as soon as you feel able to.

PHHHH with my first I was like taking a shower, going to the bathroom, watching tv... WAITING to get out of there (and that was only 4 hours!) So Im sure I'll be like oh dont you take my baby.. fallowing them everywere dragging the IV or whatever behind me... haha no one touches my kid... im crazy people.. maybe I should like write the nurses a letter before hand explaining my craziness... it might help!

They dont take the baby out of the room to do that stuff I said that in the last messege. But for the hearing test and vision they might. But all you have to do is tell them you dont want the baby to leave and they wont take her
