Scrapping membranes??

My doctor said that if I am dialated by 39 weeks (thats next week for me) that she would go ahead and scrap my membranes. I go 2morrow for my 38 week appointment to get checked. My question was, what do they do when they scrap your membranes, and why??? Also, how does this feel??

Do you mean strip your membranes??

I was wondering that too and SO forgot to ask the doctor today.....

I had that done yesterday. They just do a regular exam and take a finger and go around the cervix to separate the water from the side of the uterus...At least that is what the doc told me....Some say it hurts but mine didnt hurt but it was just uncomfortable.

Oh ok! Sorry! It doesnt hurt and i basically take it as a thinning of the cervix!

Im believe they do it to help you naturally go into labor i was 3 days past my due date when my doctor did it to me and i went into labor 2days later. Best of Luck!

Well this is my 3rd and I have had both of my others at 38 weeks so they thought they would just help the process a little. Plus my husband works on the river and he has to go back to work next Wed. So far for me all it has done is made me cramp pretty bad and loose my mucas plug.
