my aunt nursed for about 9 years. she nursed all her kids until she got pg again and then they weaned while she was pg, as she had difficult pregnancies (HG) and no milk supply. but whoosh .. I will need a break whenever my younger one weans!

Are you looking for a place to support you in sticking with it or are you looking for help with weaning?

My son is 3 years old, and is still trying to breastfeed. My milk dried up in September 2012, while we were still nursing, and now he just wont quit putting his hands in my shirt. when we are out in public, when we are in front of people, it doesnt matter - he will still put his hands in my shirt and rub my breast. It is making me uncomfortable. At night, when we are sleep, he will try to breastfeed and I keep telling him that there is nothing in there anymore. He cries whenever I ask him to get off of me, since he is always up under me and inside of my shirt. Any advice on how I can make it stop? This is driving me insane.

I do too! But I also love YOUR avi pic! What made you choose sundropbootydrop as your SN and a pic of sundrop for your avi?

This can happen when a child is weaned before ready & I have heard of other mommas having issue with longer term struggling with a child wanting to put their hand down the shirt. It would have been easier to rid this behavior when he was still nursing as you can use nursing as your bargaining tool - so you teach nursing manners in exchange for agreeing to let them continue. At this point, those behaviors would need to be addressed in accordance with whatever you do for *other* undesirable behaviors he does.

At this point, since you have weaned, there is no reason to address this as a "breastfeeding" issue since he isn't breastfeeding. This is like anything else he may do that you want to stop & treat it as such. Make sure you are giving him lots of attention & cuddles & then set up boundaries & stick with them. Persistence like this normally comes from you giving in some times & not others. If he does it more in front of others, it is being done to demand your attention at a time he feels can interject himself. Make sure you are meeting his needs for attention & then let him him know it has to stop & keep up with firm responses when he tries. As far as at night you will need to keep things wrapped up - so wear a bra & clothing that is snug & covering so he has no access until this passes. It WILL pass.

DS and I will reach 18 months BF on the 16th :-) this was my goal and he still nurses 6+ times a day plus night time. I dont see him wanting to stop any time soon.

I hear that, I finished nursing my 3 yo a couple of months ago and for some reason I feel an urge to have another baby, a 3rd, but know that's just not feasible for my family for so many reasons. I was ready for him to stop, though, because I started to resent him and the bfing and that's not good either.
