Okay...good to know. I've never bf this long so it's nice to know it's the norm.

Sounds pretty typical. Both my boys woke every 2 he still at that age & by 2 were no longer waking me at night, at all. I dod gentle encouragement (like tried offering other comfort first, starting at 18 mos...at first it was flat out rejection of it every time & I would nurse if they got upset of course - but over time, they grasually accepted stuff like a back rub instead of a boobie & when they stopped waking I was astonished.

Yeah..if it starts to get any worse, I may just night wean her. But it's good to know it's normal!

today marks 8 months of tandem nursing!
my older son is 2 yr 10m old (will be 3 at the end of Feb)
and my younger son is (obviously) 8m old.

still going strong. I promised DH I would wean our oldest by his 3rd birthday, but with that only about 6 weeks away, I'm not really seeing the end in sight yet, so we'll see. He has been night weaned for about 10 months though, so that is nice.

if you just want to start with night weaning, I suggest the "no cry sleep solution". that's what I used to night wean my son around 20m old. It does take a few weeks for the full effects, but it's worth it because there is minimal crying involved (you never leave them alone to cry, but sometimes they do cry in your arms in the course of things, of course) and of course, then you get to sleep too! =D

I can email you the pdf version if you PM me with your email address.

Quoting Ivana, expecting #3!:" Hey Mamas!! My son is 21 months old and still nursing frequently! My first post partum AF is still nowhere ... [snip!] ... will not let him nurse at all except twice a day, one for his nap, one for his to fall asleep at night, and that will be that."

I'm late in posting, but your developing nursing aversion sounds like AF is due to start soon naturally or that you're already pregnant.

His constant nursing is very common and healthy at this age, from 21-24 months they have a vocab explosion where their speech really takes off and then they have a cognitive spurt around the same age. Once this passes they usually nurse much less. Lot's of women describe this stage as them nursing like a newborn, because they need it so much for all the brain boosters with the fast paced development.

She may start nursing again when you're new baby comes? I think it's quite common.

Yup totally normal. DS was at least 2.5 years old when he would nurse to sleep, then nurse when i went to sleep 3ish hours later, and then sleep for 6 hours and nurse again. Then nurse shortly before waking up. So i guess he was still nursing 4 times during the 12 hour night period, but we were getting 6 hours of solid sleep after i went to bed. So i count it as sleeping through. It was an occasional thing but has happened more and more frequently as he got to 3.

It probably will get "worse" as she's coming up to the vocab explosion age. 21-22 months seem to be the most frequent nursing times. Then there is the 2 yr molars too, i can't remember how badly she's affected by teething? Night nursing and nursing in general got a lot less frequent after DS turned 2. They are just babies before that so i think any amount of nursing prior to 2 is good and healthy, you can see all the important reasons they do it

Glad to see that there is a breastfeeding group for toddlers, though I'm not sure if I qualify just yet. DD is 10 months old, but is walking so I personally consider her a toddler. Not to mention she has already started with nursing Acrobatics. ;) Here's a picture of my nursling.
