Ear tube question

posted 29th Sep
Quentin had tubes put in his ears when he was 10 1/2 months old. He had 10 ear infections from the time he was 3 months until he was 10 months, and hasn't had one since the surgery.

One fell out the other night. The ENT said originally that he wanted them to stay in for 12-18 months, and it has only been 7 months. We go in today for his checkup, so I'll find out then, butI was wondering if any of you have dealt with tubes, and if they had to redo them when they fell out?

I'm afraid they haven't been in long enough!!!

I had them 3 times as a child because they kept falling out. And I still get ear aches, not infections, but bad ear aches when ever I am about to get a cold, or already have one.

Its a very simple procedure...when we had Quentin's done the first time we were at the clinic for a total of 3-4 hours...he was away from me for maybe 45 minutes of that, while they did the procedure and then brought him out of anesthesia. He was 100% on the drive home, in fact he actually responded to me when I said his name...first time he'd done that when he wasn't already paying attention to me.

I'm sure he'll do fine mama! If you have any questions about how they do it or anything, feel free to ask!!

I really hope they don't have to do Quentin's over again...I'm really praying that the short amount of time that he's had them in has been enough!!!

I just noticed you are an okie girl. My doctor has explained the procedure to me so I think I am prepared for it. If I have any question I will for sure ask you. It just sucks that they have to put him under. He has had surgery before at 2 months so he has been put under before. I am still nervous.

Holy crap you're in BA?? Wow small world! I'm in Tahlequah (about 45 min SE of you), we go up to BA all the time (my BF grew up there).

Why did he have surgery before? Nothing serious I hope! I'm sure he'll do fine with the tubes...it is so quick, they seriously took him from me, I went out smoked a cigarette and a half, and started back toward the building, and the doc was already waiting for me to tell me he was done...I had to wait another 20 minutes or so while they woke him up, but it was so fast it was unreal.
