when i went to my daughters pre k on friday there was this mom who sat next to me (we were waiting for the classroom to open) well here son was acting up an not listening an the momther told him "if you do not listen then i am going to the store an not going to buy you anything" so the kid sat there for a min then started running around again an the mom said " i am going to mc donalds an i am not going to buy you anything" now i hate when i hear parents trying to bribe there kids to listen. i dont think that is the right way. you shouldn't threaten kids with not buying them things to get them to listen

I say whatever works..my mom used to threaten to rip our faces off...it seems funny now..but back then I was to scared to even see if she would or not

Why should kids get things just because they act right? They are supposed to act right. Well thats if the parents are teaching them right

I agree-- i believe that your child should respect your authority without the use of bribes..after awhile that method will stop working and she will have no control over him at all.

I cant stand mothers like that. Wait till the child is a teenager, he will walk all over her.

Some have different parenting styles. Whatever works for them. As long as she wasn't physically abusing her child. My mom threatend me as a child. I try to w/ my son, (Like take toys away, and he's like whatever mom)

I'm still waiting to have my own personal experiences (I'm 10 wks), however, judging from some of my family's children...some kids are just down right unruly and my sis-in-law honestly has to use whatever means necessary....I don't understand how she has any hair left at all...literally.

We kind of do that with my 4 yr old. if we are AT the store and he behaves he can get a small toy. If we are AT Mcdonalds and he eats his food and behaves he will get the toy. What gets me is that obviously he wasn't too bothered by not getting anything at the store so then she had to threaten him with Mcdonalds, so its not working very well. Also does she follow through if not its going to mean anything to him.

my mom does that..lol..its so sneaky..but works wonders...children like to test their boundaries and will act a total ass if allowed.

children are very smart an learn at a young age what they can get away with i think if a parent does not parent there child right they will grow up to be out of control teenagers. when i was young mom i would give my kids whatever they wanted just so they wouldn't be bad well that didn't work i would be very embaresed when i would go places because my kids would be running around like crazy. so as i got older i decided to take a parenting class to see what i was doing wrong well i learned alot. an with 6 kids you need disiplint.

yeah he gets to hold the shiny quarter and if he wants a toy in the store she says she is gonna take the quarter then but her wont ever hand the quarter back over so he forgets the toy haha

Granted, I bribe my kid..in a different way. If Lego is really good when we've been out all day, I make it a point to buy him a special treat before we go home. It's a reward for putting up with mommy's running around & being a good sport about it.

I'd never threaten him with it though. He's too young to grasp the concept yet, but as he gets older, I intend for him to know without me having to say anything. Worked for my sisters & I. My parents could drag us all over the world & you'd never hear a peep out of us.. we wanted our "special treats" at the end! haha.
