Anyone with headaches after having their baby?

posted 26th Sep '08
Im 1 month 1 day PP and I get headaches that last all day long. They are unrelieved with tylenol and motrin. The dr checked my blood pressure yesterday and it was normal so I dont know what it is now. I have another appt this morning but I was wondering if any other moms had this prob? Do you think it might be stress related cause my headaches go away when I sleep.

Did you have the epi?

I was told if I had headaches for the first month or so to call my doc. Not sure what it is I never had headaches just when I was pregnant.

IB profin may work better that's what I always took or excedrin.

if you leak spinal fluid you'll have headaches until it can regenerate itself.. I took oxycodone and stayed in bed as much as possible.

Are you nursing? Or holding the baby at an angle that stresses your neck?

Nursing is horrible on the neck and shoulders, causing tension and then headaches. Try this stretch:

Clasp your fingers together and put your hands on the back of your head, just above where your spine reaches your skull. Drop your chin to your chest and keep your elbows pulled in close towards your center. Let the weight of your hands pull your head down and stretch your neck and back. You can also move your hands more towards your forehead - kind of the top of your head - and that will help it stretch further down. Hold it until the pin prick/tingling/stretching feeling starts to ease off. This works REALLY well if you do it in the shower or bath or have a heating pad across your shoulder while you do it.

Hope that helped!

Headaches are quite common after putting your body through the stress of having a wee one. One thing that I found that helped was waking up earlier and going to bed earlier, helps to put your body on a regular schedule and moring hours tend to be quieter, therefore, postponing the headache. Also, make sure you eat as soon as you have a chance, in the morning. Don't EVER skip breakfast, it's even more important as your body is healing because it jump starts you for the day. And don't forget to take a nap or two during the day, while your little one sleeps, you need to re-build your energy and give your body time to recooperate. Good Luck!

I've had a headache for 4 days straight...but I'm 5 months pp and I had them pretty bad before I was pregnant. I was prescribed a muscle relaxer cuz I think it was tension from my neck

There's a disk in your neck right at the base of your skull, and when it's out of position it can cause headaches (I have had to go to the chiropractor since I was 12). Having a baby totally screws with your back, so I wouldn't be surprised if you needed an adjustment.

Well I went to the dr this morning and he ordered 2 cat scans next week. One for my brain and one for my sinus's. Hopefully they go well.

With my second I got horrible headaches about that long after. Part of it was stress and lack of sleep!

I have tons of headaches! I used to get them once a year maybe, regardless of stress or sleep. Maybe it's a different type of headache-triggering stress.
