Baby weight Q

posted 25th Sep '08
2 weeks ago when I had my us...the baby weight was about 5 pounds 12 ounces..isnt that a bit small? if they gain a ounce a week..(is that correct?) then isnt he underweight for me to be at 38 weeks and 5 days.

should I bring this up with my dr as a concern?

They are suppose to gain like 1/2 pound to a pound a week near the end.

Shes right. They gain a good amount right at the end. Plus ultrasounds arent always accurate when it comes to the weight.

Im sure hes fine. hes got a little more time to gain. Plus like I said its very common for the weight to be more when they are actually born.

Well, if it makes you feel any better. A friend of mine delivered her baby via emergency c-section last Friday night. She was only 34 weeks, and her baby was 3 pounds 12 ounces. But they will probably be sending him home a week from tomorrow. So, just because a baby is small doesn't necessarily mean it's not strong.
