Underbite

posted 24th Sep '08
I know I can ask a dentist but still. Is it to early for me to know for sure if my daughter is going to have an underbite? It looks like she does already.

I ended up with a HORRIBLE underbite when I got older, but I didn't have one when I was younger.. so it's hard to say. I did end up having to have surgery to correct it though.

Well my husband has a terrible one. He never had the money for dental work as a child. The dentist told him that they'd have to break his jaw to fix it. He is afraid to get it done. I just don't want my daughter to go through that though.

That's what I had to have done. I had to have my top and bottoms jaws broken, reset and wired shut for a month. It was HORRIBLE. I was 13 and thankfully we had it done at the beginning of the Summer.. but now you'd never be able to tell.

So it works. I just hope Lexi doesn't have to go through that. My husband was teased so much about it.

Oh yeah, definately. I was really teased about it too. I look back at the pictures of myself and cant even believe that it's the same person I see now.

I was actually wondering, are underbites passed on? I have an overbite, and Rob has an underbite. I mean neither of them are that severe or anything, it is just what row of teeth are further ahead. So we've been wondering, if Corbin is more apt to get one over the other?

When we met Rob told me that we kissed perfectly because if I have an overbite and he has an underbite, our mouths would join up perfect.   heehee.....

Thats what I am wondering too. I have a overbite and my husband has an underbite. Maybe Lexi will just have a bite! I hope that it equals itself out.

And with our two bites, we will combine, and create, PERFECT BITE BABY! *dun dun dun*

hah.
no really, can you just have a bite though? Without surgery or dental work, I mean? I always thought that pretty much everyone had one, to a certain degree?

Do you think it will change when they lose their baby teeth? My dentist will not see kids till the age of 2 so I am unsure what to do.

Hm, I'm not sure... It's their jaw, so the teeth may not affect it, but then again the jaw might just grow, therefore changing it.

Rob just felt Corbin's mouth, and he said overbite. lol.

Lucky you. I'm not sure if Lexi does it or if it really is an underbite. When she smiles on her own it looks likean underbite. When I tell her to smile they both touch.

Well Corbin is only 7 months, so I guess it could change too.

But is an underbite bad or something? Or are you worried it will become a severe underbite?

When I met Rob, I use to stare at his mouth when he talked (I still do sometimes..lol), I loooove his mouth.

I'm not sure, but I saw a little girl who was 2 with a paci, Her Mom said she had never had one and that the dentist told her to give it to her daughter to correct the under bite she had. I though that was interesting.
