Induction Questions...

posted 22nd Sep
It's day #11 overdue. I go in on my 14th day overdue to be induced, which is Thursday at 6:30 am. For all the mommies who have been induced, how long did the process take for you? From the time they started the pitocin up until the time you gave birth? What was your experience like with being induced? Any advice for me? I just want to know what I'm getting myself into even though I have a feeling I'm going to be one of the women who push for 18 hours and end up with a C-Section.

Hope you ladies can help.

Thanks!

i spent two days straight sitting around on pitocin. i only got up to 5cm, and i was stuck at 5 for 12 hrs before they FINALLY considered doing an emergency c-section. bottom line, it sucked.

I've been induced twice.

With my first, I went in at 8pm for Cervidil and it didn't work. They also put in an IV and a catheter at that time. They broke my water and started Pitocin at 6 or 7 in the morning. I had the epidural at 9 or 10 and he was born at 1:20. The only complication was the cord being around his neck and that wasn't related to the induction at all. He had to be vacuumed out.

With my second, I went in at midnight and the Cervidil worked. IV but no catheter. The same schedule pretty much happened with him, pitocin, water being broken, epidural but he was born at 11:30 in the morning, no complications.

Well I was induced at 39 weeks because I had preeclams. I was in labor for 42 hours until they decided to do a c section because I wasnt progressing. I had contractions every minute at times. It was not fun at all. Just make sure you have a good doctor that will listen to you. I was in a military hospital or I think I would have had a c section sooner.
I hope everything goes well for you. GOOD LUCK!!!

It was great. I got the pitocin around 10:30 am and about 8 hours later I was ready to push. Pushed for 10 min and out he came.

They started pitocin on me at 8am, and my son made his grand entrance at 3:44pm. It was a wonderful experience!! I was only in pain for about an hour before I got an epidural.... 7 hours & only 7 pushes.
You poor thing, I couldn't imagine being THAT overdue! Good luck!

Wow, I can't believe your Dr has let you go so far. My dr said if I wasn't in labor by my due date, shewouldinducethe next morning. I hope it all goes well for you. As far as the time, it's different for every woman. Just like pregnancy and labor are all different.

Dont think you of 18 hours then C section. I was induced with my 2 kids and probably will have to be induced with this one. I get to 4 cm and dont go beyond that without help. With my daughter I went in at 12pm and they started pitocin at 1 and broke my water and I had her at 8:01 pm and only pushed for 45 mins. With my son I went in at 9am and started pitocin at 10:30 and broke water around 11 and had him at 12:22 and only pushed twice. Had epi with both with my son it did not work until after I had him. So dont know if I will get one with the one. Pitocin does make things come on much faster then normal contraction but not bad I dont think. I had good experience with both of mine! Good Luck!

They started me on pit at 9:30 in the morning and Julia was born at 11:00 at night. So I was in labor for about 13 1/2 hours.

I stalled a little, and almost ended up with a c-section, but luckily not.

Technically I guess they started inducing me the night before, b/c they had to ripen my cervix, but i wasn't contracting yet.

The entire process was about 28 hours from start to finish (including the cervix ripening)

I was induced10 days overdue. I had no effacement and no dialation when I went in.

They inserted the cervadil tab (Sp?) into my cervix to help "ripen" it up a bit. That has to sit for 4 hours. Then they started the pitocin. It was a long, tiring process. No pain really. But my ass hurt so bad from sitting on that bed. My water broke about 20 hours into it. That's when the pains started. I thought I was dying b/c at this point my pitocin was turned up to the highest level it can legally be at. So I got my epi. When my water broke I was at a 4, I went from 4-10 in 3 hours. Pushed for 30 minutes and then had my little man to hold.

In total, from start to finish: 23 1/2 hours.

I was induced at 41 weeks. I was in labor for 21 hours and pushed 5 times(like 15 minutes). I've never been through labor before but the nurse told me that it is more painful than natural labor because the pitocin is forcing your body to have contractions. It was the WORSE pain of my life so I got the epi when I was 5cm. At that point I was only in labor for like 4 more hours. Its defiantly a long process but it is all worth it. don't be scared. good luck!

I couldn't even imagine being stuck there for 2 days straight with no progress. I think I would rip the IV's out and tell them to give me a C-Section ASAP!

This would be my PERFECT labor story. I can deal with 8 hours.

One thing that alot of you had said was that you had to sit and wait for your cervix to ripen. Luckily, I've had 3 treatments of Prostin Gel. It's made me 100% effaced but I'm still only 2 cms since 40 weeks. Hopefully the fact that I don't have to get my cervix ripened will take off an hour or two of labor. LOL. I'm so scared. It's finally becoming real. I don't know if I could handle the pain of labor. I just don't know what to expect. I guess it's the fear of the unknown.
