re: Vaccination: Researching the Issue

Quoting O ♥ G:" Can y'all give me info on what the HiB, Dtap, and PCV13 shots are for???? Trying to decide what DD2 should ... [snip!] ... decided that she's not getting Polio, HepB (until she's of age to have sexual relations), or Rotavirus. She's 9 weeks old."

the pcv13 is pneumonia, HiB is meningitis, DTaP is diptheria, tetanus and pertussis. HiB sounds fantastic, until you research further and find it only protects against a few strains out of a bunch. Whooping cough IS scary, but for me, I wouldn't risk it in my own children since that is the vaccine I am vaccine injured from and my son has had multiple reactions with. I highly recommend this site for information, it's very informative on vaccines and the diseases they are supposed to prevent. http://www.nvic.org/

I would simply reply my religion is not any of his business. What an smurf. It's intrusive and offensive. They are essentially degrading your religion, which is discrimination. He wouldn't be that way about your ethnicity, would he?

I don't really understand "shedding."

Any good links/info?

My son is going to be watched by a mama that, I assume, vaccinates her 6 month old. Do I need to keep LOs home when she gets whichever shots shed? and for how long?

Shedding is basically the vaccine making the person contagious with whatever they were vaccinated against. The vaccines that are made with live viruses are injected into your body and your body can expel the illness. Not all shed though, only MMR, varicella, and OPV shed. OPV I don't think is used often though, and not in infants. And the flumist. Not really any a 6 month old is getting. http://insidevaccines.com/wordpress/2008/02/24/secondary-transmission-%EF%BB%BFthe-short-and-sweet-about-live-virus-vaccine-shedding/

Tell the doctor to read the Bible to answer his own question, then kindly shove it up his ass...

It's actually a common side effect on any shot, especciallywith the HPV one. By the way, the HPV shot only "protects" against 2 to 4 of the "dangerous" strains. And there are hundreds of HPV strains.

When my son got his 3-month shots, he had 4 partial seizures within 12 hours. His Ped refused to see us until his next appointment, 2 months later. She marked it as "seizure like stiffening". As a special needs nanny to kids with epilepsy, diabetes, etc and as a MA, I KNOW a seizure when I see them. Also, his Ped was NOT in any way responsible for any of the side effects! Plus, the ingredients in these things?! Nope, I quit vaxxing after these.

Whooping cough is now going around in my community, and I feel good that my kids were vaccinated, but I always wonder if there are different strands of the disease that my children could not be protected from?
