Quoting ~*Amanda Evan*~:" Unfortunately, I don't...I've gone through this entire pregnancy alone and the only person at my bedside ... [snip!] ... the time it's not going to go the way you planned. I'm not just pulling this out of my butt, the nurses tell me these things."

I'm a single disabled parent and didn't have any family during pregnancy. 2 weeks before i went into labour i arranged a homebirth and i laboured alone, for the birth i just had 2 homebirth midwives and a doula, after the birth i was alone. A doula would be ideal for you, to support your wishes. Do you need your mom there? I felt better being alone than having mine there, who isn't supportive.

Quoting Kara-lynn:" ok, what about travel and being unvax... I doubt this will ever happen, but what if we wanted to take ... [snip!] ... a family vacation to say, England, France, Ireland, WHATEVER... or a cruise? Are you required to get vaccinated before that? "

I'm british and don't vax, the US is much stricter with vaccines and our schedule is less. Measles is more common here, hundreds a year i think, but there hasn't been a purely related death in 20 years. You wouldn't be questioned about vaccines here.

Quoting Teagan's Mommy☠:" so everyone i asked said it's very dangerous if it does shed to you..and will most likely hurt the baby ... [snip!] ... most likely hurt the baby somehow if u get rubella. so personally if i was preg. i'd steer clear of recently mmr vaxed kids."

I think that's kinda ridiculous. well, ridiculous is probably not the best term, inpractical maybe. People are vaxed all the time, you never know when you're exposed, you could be 10 times every day. You can't never leave the house. Vaccination for rubella is a joke, it's so ineffective, some people never show positive titers for it no matter how many times they've been vaxed. Some show different antibody results every time a titer is taken, with every pregnancy, pre and post partum. I'd just get on with life as normal and stay healthy - the usual stuff, eating properly, resting, sunlight etc. Rubella is such a mild illness it's common for ppl to have it and not even realize it. It's only IF you actually contract it that there is a 25% risk of the baby being affected, in the first trimester. The risk lessens after that, again, only if you actually contract the illness.

Quoting Teagan's Mommy☠:" he's 3 next month, i actually wish he'd get cp and measles from the shedding possibly he'd get natural immunity and get it over with before he gets too old and it's more dangerous"

DS had chicken pox last month, phew, glad his first exposure was at this age. It was over pretty quick and he never really got sick from it, just ran about with no clothes on for 4 days or something. He's got about 10 scars though, but only being a month old they could still fade plenty. I was kinda hoping he'd get measles whilst he's still nursing, but i want him to have been in good health for a while before he gets it. I know if they've been sick with anything else recently then it dramatically increases risk of complications. Our diet has been bad lately and we've not done any supplements for weeks since the whole fleeing violence and moving house issue. And he's had high stress with what happened, and the changes from moving. I'm hoping life will calm down for us, that we'll get settled in a new home and get our diet back on track. I don't know when he'll wean though. It'd be good if he got measles and mumps over with next year.

E is going to be starting preschool in about a year. E has never had a single vaccination, nor any medication i decided was not worth the risk. i'm very scared to put in a religious exemption when we are not entirely religious. what do the forms look like? do you need to sound like you know what you're talking about? i feel like they're going to ask me questions, and i'll freeze. in IA the exemptions are medical and religious.

I am in FL but I had no issue getting a religious exemption... I went to the health department to get it & they did not appear to care one way or another....

I find my self praying that Liam has my immune system. The last time I had a cold was like 6 years ago and I cant remember a time before that. I cant ever remember having the flu, strep, bronchitis. I was rarely sick and when I was it was like mono, or a kidney infection.

Noah has already had Rotavirus, some type of one day bug, viral bronchitis, and 2 ear infections ( at same time) he's barely 9 months!...its so scary when they get sick...but then they get better and you feel more trusting in yourself by learning what helps them.

On the other hand I have no idea what to do when he gets a future ear infection....he is so sensitive to antibiotics- they make him break out ;( I hate them

All you need them to know is that you are "religiously opposed to vaccination." Period! No one SHOULD ask you any specific questions...at least, they're not supposed to. Some school authorities may not realize this and ask anyway, at which time, you can either 1) fudge and make up some vague details about which religion you belong to. Know that your interpretation of your religion is good enough...no need for any established church or church authority to reject vaccines, or 2) make it clear that you're not discussing your religion...stay vague, repeat yourself about being religiously opposed.

This site pulls reasons from a few common religions ( Christianity/ Judaism/ Buddhism ect) you can use these reasons if you need something to say....
