That's so sad. I hope the baby makes a full recovery...
I gues in this case the best thing you can do is support your friends and have compassion...I agree with not vaccinating, but I know alot of people choose to because they truly believe that it will protect their kids...but this is very sad

I agree, it is very sad.   I love that baby, and his parents as well, they are very good friends of mine.
I just can't help but feel like they should have known better.

According to this link, the new proposed mandatory health care coverage will include mandatory vaccinations. Meaning, those needing medical care will be denied until they are current on their shots. *sigh* How can this be constitutionally possible??????? HOW can the governement decide what is right for each of us to put in our own bodies? They can't even say that Peanut Butter and Shellfish are safe for every person, how can they claim that about a vaccine? *cries* I'm fucking moving back to Canada if this thing really passes. http://www.youronlineinsurance.com/health-insurance/will-fed-governments-proposed-mandatory-health-insurance-work-141/comment-page-1/#comment-9”
The constitution doesn't seem to be of concern these days... my husband has decided we will definitely have to move, maybe to Canada.. Im pretty nervous but am atleast trying to keep an open mind.. you just don't know what will happen ;(

I also feel upset when people should know better, all the information is out there for them to see. It is your own fault if you do not do your own research, however it's incredibly hard for people to understand anyone would ever hurt their child for greed, let alone the medical field. You have to feel for them, while at the same time its hard not to be upset at them for being part of the cause.

You would be upset with a friend who was smoking around their child, who was giving them too much soda,or that was harming them in anyway, this one is tricky b/c there is no warning of the truth of the effects, but encouragement from the doctors whom they trust.

I used to live in Canada... it's not so bad.
At least they have the choice to decline vaccination and still receive healthcare!

I'm not sure. It depends on what kind you have. I have Enfamil D-Vi-Sol for my son and 1mL equals 400 units.
I'm still only taking 1400 IU per day. I've done a ton of research on mega-doses and don't agree with it at all (no offense to SharonBlueEyes)! Also, I've never had my Vit D levels tested so I don't want to overdose. Overdosing is rare but if it does occur it takes months to get back to normal and for all the Vit D to leave your body.

I'd check out Dr. Soram Khalsa's book, The Vitamin D Revolution.
He covers pretty much all aspects of vitamin D use, deficiency and dosage for everybody.
I got it for like 10 dollars.

No offense taken
My mom and brother are seeing a doctor and actually have their blood levels monitored along with their high dosage.
In order to keep their blood levels at the optimal level of 50ng/ml, my brother is on 50,000 iu every other day, and my mom is on 10,000 iu daily.

Being that we live where we do, with nine months of very little daylight and crappy summers to boot, it doesn't suprise me that they need this kind of dosage to keep their blood levels right.
So I am basing my dosage on their findings.
Although one my hubby's insurance kicks in from his new job, I intend to go get my levels tested to see where they are... then adjust from there.

I was at the store today, and they had Vitamin D pills that were 5000iu's, but it said "Not for pregnant or nursing mothers", so I didnt get it  .....any thoughts?
