Hi Chasity!

I agree that it depends on the expert you ask as to whether or not the shots can cause autism, and it's not just the "crazies" or "quacks" who are linking it...

Why is it so crazy, anyway, to suspect that a neuro-toxin injected into a small baby can potentially cause neurological problems? Especially when the symptoms of heavy metal toxicity are identical to those of autism. It's really not that far of a stretch if you think about it.

Its not far fetched at all! This is why kids with ASD are tested for heavy metal poisoning and why chelation is used.

yeah. i couldn't get the pertussis anymore. i only got a few vaccinations. they never asked for exemption forms or anything when i was in school. everyone was supposed to have the hep b shots or they couldn't go to school until they got them but i was never sent home and i never got the shots. my mom regrets getting me and my brothers vaccinated at all.

I'm glad there are other mothers on here that don't vaccinate their kids. From the looks of it, most people on here vaccinate. I felt so out-numbered. I just did so much reading on all of it, that I decided it was best not to. There is a saying I like: "I would rather my child get sick from something I didn't do, rather than from something I did do!"

I just wanted to say how lucky you are! My cousin had an allergic reaction to the pertussis shot. Like your parent's my aunt and uncle took him in and the doctor said it was normal and sent them home. He started screaming all day and having seizures. They took him to a neurologist and found out it had already fried half of his brain.  Needless to say my cousins, me and my sister have never received the P part of the DPT.  They still give out that save exact shot. I'm really looking into delaying and choosing only a few shots. I may not vaccinate at all...  I'm not sure yet. Some of my cousins are choosing to delay.....

The reactions are not that rare actually... my son had a reaction to his first Hep B shot and the doc's just blew it off as normal. (High Fever, the shakes and eye rolling is not normal) As it turns out he had an over load of Aluminum. He was only 6lbs 7oz but it was too much for him. The doctors wouldn’t admit it or even say his reaction could be from the vaccine but after almost a year of research I know what it is now. I also think his hep b shot caused his extreme eczema...he had it sooooo bad when he was an infant...he would have patches on his face that would crack andbleed from it. After reading and reading and talking to "holistic" doctors, I know it played a part in it. We now don’t vaccinate at all andifI ever have another baby no way inhell would I let them do what they did to my son to another baby. It’s a shame they are so quick to inject this crap in them but as soon as something goes wrong they act like they have no idea how it happened or what to do about it.

I wish more parents would be concerned about the "normal" reaction of a fever. A fever tells us there's something not right in the body, and it is an indication of the ingredients processing through the brain.

I have a question.... I chose to vaccinate my daughter, out of guilt. That whole "Well, if she gets sick from something I could have vaccinated her against, I will feel horrible!". My husband prefers getting her vaccinated, and he and my mother's views are that we were vaccinated and we are fine
My head still screams at me every time a doctors visit nears though and it becomes "But what if something happens because you -did- vaccinate her??"
Now, I am generally a paranoid person, and I try not to read things that will make me more paranoid (because it literally makes me ill and I can't sleep :\) I would ask if I am doing the right thing, but I know no one can tell me that.
So instead I will ask:
What are the benefits of delayed shots? How does it work? Is it too late to implement it at 6 months old? Can it cause harm to stop shots midway through giving them (I have heard it leaves them more susceptible to the diseases)?

The shots just terrify me, and I honestly don't know what to do

No, it's not too late to delay the shots. You have plenty of options (which can be a good and bad thing, lol.) One thing you might think about, especially if you're uncomfortable with what she's gotten so far, is delaying any more shots until your baby is 2 or older.

Or, you can pick the diseases that frighten you the most, do those only, and delay the rest until after age 2.

You can also choose to spread the shots out...getting only 1 or 2 at an appointment, and waiting for the next appointment to get the next 1 or 2. (Remembering that some shots are combo shots and count as 3 or more! You can ask your doctor about splitting up combo shots.)

There are tons of ways to go about it. Check out mothering.com's vaccine board to link up with lots of really informed parents (some who don't vax, some who partially vax  http://www.mothering.com/discussions/forumdisplay.php?f=47

Good luck! And remember to follow your instincts with any medical procedure.

The reason to delay is to wait for the blood/brain barrier, is that correct?
I'm trying to discuss this with my hubby

A big part of why I am rethinking my blind following is that the last 2 sets of vaccines my daughter got, she had 2 different reactions, both of which her pedi said were normal and nothing to worry about.
Her 2 month- She was fine until 1 1/2-2 hours after the shots, when she started screaming bloody murder and her legs swelled huge and hard. She screamed for about 2 hours, nonstop, even to the point of throwing up a few times. We gave her tylenol and used hot compresses and eventually she cried herself to sleep, and was fine the next day. She had diarrhoea for about 4 weeks following that, going from 2-4 poops a day to 7-8 and ended up getting an anal fissure that is still a problem 4 months later. Doctor said that problem was unrelated to the shots, I blame the Rotavirus. Her temp never went very high, though she did ge a bit warm, no fever. Only dosed her 3 times with tylenol.

Her 4 month- We gave her tylenol about 1/2 hour before the shots this time and started hot compresses as soon as we got home. No screaming, no major swelling, she was just sore. Her temp went up a teeny bit again, but no fever. Gave her tylenol a few times for the soreness... She did get diarrhoea again, but only for a few days. The issue this time was a small swollen spot (little hard spot) on one leg where an injection was given, that stuck around a good 4 weeks. Phone nurse told me it is normal to be there from tetanus shots and can last 2-3 weeks.... Still not sure why it lasted longer than that.

Yes, reason for delaying is because the brain is still rapidly developing between age 0-2. Many experts feel that since the brain is more developed after 2, the neurotoxins present less of a risk.

edited to say: I would feel concerned about those reactions as well. My daughter experienced something similar, along with some neurological problems (clawing at us and herself, banging her head, rolling her eyes back.)

I can see why you stopped vaccinating with a reaction like that! I am just stuck in this feeling of being overwhelmed by so much information and not knowing what the best choice is, and I have only scraped the tip of the iceberg

The main thing that helped me feel better about not vaccinating is knowing that most of the diseases are easily treatable and mild in most healthy children. And that's IF they happen to catch a disease, which is rare since in the U.S. we have clean drinking water and good nutrition.

*nod*
That is kind of what I am now leaning toward as I have seen some moms on the mothering.com forums saying that same thing. And it makes sense to me.
My hubby is worried about what school will do when the time comes, if she is behind or simply doesn't have her shots, so while he is somewhat okay with delaying for now, he would like her caught up by then. I am not so sure though and am trying to get some info for us to go over. I am considering home schooling anyway, but obviously haven't decided yet (got a good 4 years at least  )

I fully vaxed my oldest son until the age of 3. Julien, who is 7 months got the hep B in the hospital (which I REALLY, REALLY regret), and he received the HIB at his 6 month checkup. I probably won't be vaccinating him anymore... and most definitely not before he is 2.
I feel like the risk of something horrible happening to him *if* he catches one of the diseases I would be preventing, is more treatable than *if* he were to have a serious, neurological reaction to all of that toxic crap that's in the vaccines.

I agree with whoever said "I'd rather something happen to my child because of something I didn't do, rather than something I did do."
