Baby sticking out tongue

I was reading something some where about when newborns stick out their tongue that it means something. My son is 3 weeks old on Monday, and just since like yesterday, he's been sticking out his tongue now and again. He does it even after he has nursed so I don't think it means he's hungry, but he just started doing it like the other day and I am wondering does anyone know what it means? I tried to google it but no luck.

are you thinking of rooting?
they stick out their tongues when theyre hungry.
like if you put your hand on his cheek and he turns his head and sticks out his tongue then thats rooting..

thats the only thing I can think of that has anything to do with them sticking out the tongue..

you said he does it after nursing too so I have no idea what else it would be.
probably just nothing

Yeah, I remember reading something about that too and I don't think it was about rooting, like someone else mentioned. I can't remember what it was, but I remember when my son started sticking it out his tongue, I was trying to think of what it was.   But he seems OK and normal and all that, so good or bad, his tongue-sticking out phase was just that....a phase.  

Well I did just find online that it is just a primitive reflex, and it will go away after 3-4 months, or when he is ready to eat solid foods. I was just a little concerned because he never did it before, of course there are going to be a lot of things that he will start to do that I've never seen before 

I dunno the answer but, my baby does the same thing ..It seems like she is just trying it out or imitating me when she does it but , I'm no expert !

my sons tongue is always out..LOL. We just stick our tongues out at him when he has his out.

if him sticking his tounge out concerns you, then you def. need to try and relax.

your baby will start to stick his tounge out if you do it to him. babies are amazing little creatures and are able to copy sticking a tounge out hours after birth.

I think my daughter just likes to stick out her tongue, haha. If he's rooting, try putting your finger near his nose or on the side of his mouth on his cheek, and if he goes up and tries to get it, then he's rooting. Smacking the tongue against a lip also means rooting occasionally..

I have a 6 month old daughter who sticks out her tongue and she did it before any1 taught her to do it the doctor asked me if any1 taught her and i said no and he said that it could mean there's something wrong with her
