Ultrasound to check babies gender at 16 weeks

posted 19th Sep '08
So I am going to be 12 weeks pregnant this Monday and I am going to check the babies gender at 16 weeks. Has anybody ever had an ultrasound to see the babies gender and the told you it was a girl and really boy? I am just curious because I want to get an idea of how accurate it is at 16 weeks.
Also...are any of you ladies familiar with certain pregnancy symptoms meaning it's a boy or girl?

I'd still wait to get a second ultrasound at a later date, to confirm whether it's a boy or girl.

And your doctor won't order an ultrasound just to check the baby's gender.

The anatomy ultrasounds are usually done between 18 and 22 weeks... So if you are going to get an ultrasound at 16 weeks just to see the gender then you will probably get another around 20 weeks where they will be able to confirm it.

And the pregnancy symptoms are all old wives tales...

I went and got a 4D ultrasound at 16 weeks and they told me it was a girl.
Then, they reconfirmed it for me at 20 weeks, and she was still a girl.

Yes I have a friend that was told at 17 1/2 weeks that she was having a girl and then had to go back in at 19 weeks (thought she was having complications) and found out it was a boy. I'd wait to determine gender. If they tell you it's a boy it's probably right but if they tell you girl at 16 weeks I wouldn't hold my breathe!

I am having twins and had an ultrasound at 16 weeks tht showed one boy and one girl. I had a second ultrasound done at 19 weeks and they were still one boy and one girl. Every ultrasound that I have seen showing the babies gender as been OBVIOUSLY showing the gender. Look carefully and ask them to look a few times at a few different angles, best of luck to you!!

I had one at 16 weeks, was told girl...and it was a girl.

I don't know of specific symptoms for girl/boy...but I know my morning sickness with my daughter was TERRIBLE, where with my son I may have thrown up like a total of 10 times...including the once when I was in labor. I was also tiny with my daughter (didn't show till like 6 months), and with my son I looked like I ATE a baby (was showing the SECOND my pee hit that stick!)...lol.

Both of mine were accurate. I had my first at 14 weeks and my second done at 16 weeks. I'll be 18 weeks when I find out with this one.

I just had an ultrasound on wednesday and was told it's a girl, I'm only 13 weeks. .I'm getting another ultrasound at the end of october to confirm it. I wouldn't go by the ultrasound at 16 weeks, that's still early.

The longer you wait the more accurate it is... and there are no signs or symptoms to tell if you are having a boy or a girl... that's all old wives tales and crap.
