Choosing a Candidate to support

posted 18th Sep
This would be more of a discussion rather than debate, but I feel this would be the most appropriate place since all political questions seem to turn into some sort of debate sooner or later. Ok so, I see many supports of thier respective political party of choice seem to be 100% behind whichever candidate they support. Now I'm wondering do you sometimes tend to favor one candidate for a specific reason and ignore some things they represent that you normally would not? No one topic in specific tends to make me start this topic, I'm just wondering because it seems in some cases Obama supports seem to act as though he can do no wrong and the same is true for some McCain supporters. I know for me I dont know I've ever been as 100% about a Canadian PM candidate as some other people seem to be in regards to the American election.
So I suppose what I'm trying to say is.. do you think some people make votes based in parts on ignorance?

Yes, many people do.

Thankfully, not everyone does.

I think a lot of people base who they are voting for on one or two issues and know nothing about the rest.  I think you should know about all issues and then make an informed decision.  There are always things you will disagree with them on so I don't think anyone is 100% behind either one.

Any decision I make depends on who is wearing the best outfit that day.

Go me for ignorance. I'm on a roll.

Sadly, I think a lot of people are voting obama because of their hatred for Bush, without really knowing the anything about his proposed policies or experience. I'm scared to think what these ignorant voters could ultimately do to this country. I mean if you think about it, raising taxes is not a good idea during a bad econonomic time, no matter who gets their taxes raised it will have a trickle down effect on the economy, but so many just listen to Obama's propaganda about change that they are oblivious to his policies!!!!

I think if you properly research a candidate, you can never be 100% behinde everything they say. I think it's just deciding who you can agree with more. I am for McCain, I don't agree with him on every aspect, but I like that fact that he stands behinde his decisions even when he is wrong.

Oh plenty of people do. I think that there is a large portion of this country that votes based on email forwards, campaign commercials, party lines, or for who they "relate" to (who would you rather have a beer with syndrome)

Fortunately there are people that actually do research, know and understand their candidates platforms and make informed decisions.

Couldn't the same thing be said about McCain and his supporters?

There are many people that are voting McCain for the same reasons, this is not just partial to one candidate. To think that all McCain voters are educated about the issues and all Obama supproters arent is a crock.

I know about all the issues and I am supporting Obama. I know some people that have no clue about the issues but heard Obama isa secret Muslim so they will vote McCain.

Yes, but many people don't want to admit that "their side" has idiots, too.
