Why is it important to have nursery ready?

posted 18th Sep
I'm a first time parent and I really really want our nursery to be ready before my due date but this is a disagreement that me and my husband are having..lol
He feels that baby isn't probably going to use the nursery for about 6 months after he's born so whats the rush. He say that he'll be using the bassinet more than a crib for awhile, which is true. So, I'm just wondering why is it important for many of you mothers to have your nursery done beforehand?

Good luck finding the time and energy after the baby comes to get it taken care of. For me, it's just common sense to get it over and done with regardless of sleeping arrangements. My kids are in their own rooms straight out of the chute so it's not really an option for me to not have the room already set up.

I would think that Mom or Dad wouldnt have time or energy to do it after baby gets here.

mine was done way before I had the baby. She's 6 months and slept in her crib one night.

Lots of reasons. First off I personally, would never keep my child in my room with me for six months, maybe a week or two, but not six months!!! Secondly, you will be too tired to go shopping for, build, and decorate a nursery WITH an infant in the house. It is also nice to have a place to go with the baby that is their space, so they can get used to it. Also.... bedding etc. should be aired out prior to using.

I had mine done a month early and she's still in our room 5 months later! But I can't imagine trying to do it now with her here...it's just easier beforehand.

What's wrong with 6 months? If the room is on the other side of the house and the baby still gets up to eat every 3-4 hours, it just makes sense to have them closer.

Yea, you all are probably right. We're probably not going to have the time or energy to do it afterwards with an infant around. By this being our first child, I guess my husband THINKS we will..lol
I think I'll take everyones advise and have it done beforehand in which I had wanted all along but I was just wondering how everyone else felt when it came to having their nursery ready for their babies.

Thanks for the help.. I just love babygaga..

Heh, I like my privacy I suppose, I would want to get them used to sleeping on their own. Also to have a little "alone" time with my husband. It's just a personal choice I suppose.

It's called "Nesting" , and it better helps you come into reality that there is going to me a little baby sleeping there. I think it's key to have it set up before hand to not only be prepared, but for piece of mind.

for starters i was headstrong about finishing mine becasue its one less thing Ill have to do later. Plus if I waited till after she comes then Ill most likely put it together half heartedly, becasue ill be busy and tired.

Also for my own mental sanity....I can relax becasue I feel prepared...even though my baby will be in a bassinette in my room for the first couple of months.

OK. I guess I don't think of the "sleeping on their own thing" because she's in her bassinet and takes naps in her room, so I don't think she's dependent on us to sleep. Getting up and going to another room every 2 hours to feed her for 5 months would have been exhausting (well, more than it has been)!

It's definitely a to-each-their-own thing. I like having them in their own room to be able to go in, turn on the light, change their diaper, and rock in a quiet room where nobody else is being disturbed. Or so he can't disturb us with his snoring.
