I know that in my aunts case, she was matched with Lily in like June or July of 2007. She picked her up in May of 2008. I don't think that people understand just how horrible those orphanages is. My aunt said that she wanted to grab as many kids as she could and run. They don't even put diapers on them and they jus learn to squat to potty anywhere they can. They are only fed rice and water when they learn to eat...and that is only twice a day. Lily was so amazed by food when she got here that they couldnt' get her to stop eating. I remember that when she was home about a month, the psychiatrist suggested that she take her to a restaurant to get the culture experience. So, they went to the Pizza Hut buffett and Lily ate two entire medium pizzas. The psychiatrist said to not take food from her right away, but to explain to her that the she can have as much as she wants and that she will not be without food. He said she is just afraid to go hungry again. Its so sad...

Aw poor Lilly. She is a lucky girl to have a new family though. I used to work in a day care and one of the familes adopted a little girl from China and she ended up being in my class. I remember the first time I got to rock her to sleep I was just holding her looking at her face and I actually started crying because I just couldnt understand how someone wouldnt want suchthis beautiful little girl. She wasnt even mine, lol

I think that people that say not to have an abortion becuase there are so mnay people waiting for kids are insane. First of all, it is not fertile myrtles responsibility to have children for those that are not fertile (and I could very well be one of those people). Second, there are PLENTY of kids avalible, they are just not the most desirble.

Now I understand NOT wanting to adopt an older child. Its not something that my husband and I could handle right now (maybe and hopefully sometime in the future though). There are so many more issues (emotionally, physically and legally) that can come up when adopting an older child. It takes very special people. I am certainly open to adopting an baby of ANY race though, which, if we decided to adopt domestically, would make our wait time much shorter.

The main issue with adoption is not the shortage of adoptable kids, its the cost and the overwhelming red tape. Many people in this country would never ever be able to afford adoption, domestic OR international. Then, if they were able to afford it, there is all the red tape to get through. Things like past health issues, living situation, age ect ect. can disqualify you from adoption.
