soda

i am sure this will start a fight, but I am just wondering. When did you give your kids soda for the first time? My daughter is 15 months and I couldn't imagine giving it to her, but I know people that give it to their kids at that age. I, in no way, approve of this, but I just wanted to see what you ladies think about it.

I don't think a kid should have soda until at least age 3.

My poor niece has been getting soda since she was a year old.

It just makes me nervous, with diabetis in my family and things like that, I would rather protect her.

My daughter was drinking soda at like 15 months. Not like sippy cups of it but she had some if I was drinking some. She's now 3 and perfectly fine. A few sips here and there won't hurt.

My son is not getting soda. Period. I guess when he goes over to friends houses and stuff he will. But we dont drink it in our house.

My daughter has still never tried soda and she's 5

My daughter turned one in late August and I was hesitant about giving her cows milk let alone any fizzy drink...
There is no need to give a child of that age fizzy drink, and although my 5 yo step daughter drinks fizzy, I am trying to cut down on hers too...

Fizzy drink is the devil, and its bad enough that adults get addicted (yes I have been addicted to caffiene for years but am finally doing something about it) let alone children... its affects vou in really bad ways

People give thier kids fizzy drink and then wonder why they act up so much....

Jamil will not have soda for as long as I can keep it from him.. I wouldn't give him Beer, why would I need to give him soda!

I hate seeing small children being given soda at all...

I don't know if I will or not or at what age. might be hard to escape it in this house we are all pretty much addicted

Funny Story about Soda!!

I watch highly what I give my 3 children to drink so they Never get Soda at all.

Well on Thursday we attended a 4 year olds birthday party. And I am not close friends with her mother so I didn't really know what to expect when we got there.

Well of course after running around and playing outside my 4 year old came to me saying she was thirsty. Now this is my Drama child mind you. We walk over to the food table and I spot that they only have Soda out for the children. I think Hmmmm they could try Soda if they wanted too. You know giving them options. So I ask her...."Would you like to try Soda? That is all they have." She tells me "No Way! That is yucky."

Well I end up asking the Mother if she had anything else for the kids to drink she tells me that they don't. And that is when my Little one begins crying for water.....ohhhh myy I think...So I go to my van where I carry water bottles in the back and get her some water!!!

I don't know exactly why but I got embarrassed when she cried for water. All of the other parents looked at me like I was some snobby person that their Soda wasn't good enough.

So this is my crazy Soda story!!!!

I haven't given my daughter any soda yet...not due to the "your a bad parent if you give your kid soda" ordeal ..but because, of how bad it is for her teeth. Dental care is so expensive (covered or not covered my insurance) so, I try to give her as little soda/sugary drinks as possible. I'm pretty sure her grandparents do gobehind my back (because, she tells me haha) but, I at least try to eliminate it on my end..at least til she fully brushes her teeth the right away without me hovering over her every morning/night

Ha Ha, you shouldn't feel bad, and I can't imagine serving only soda at a 4 year old's party!   At Jamil's party we mostly had adults so I did have soda... and Bottled water, and boxes of 100% Juice.. I'm like that though, We always have healthier options, I hate that people would be forced to have something unhealthy if they didn't want it...

Yes .. I have seen someone give their son BEER when he was like only one and a few months... I was mortified....
I couldnt believe I was seeing what I was seeing...
I was in shock!
but then again.. in a way i wasnt TOO surprised because of who the parents are!

I dont know why people feel its neccessary to do this
