I haven't been through all 78 pages of this thread, so I don't know how many brownie recipes are already on here, if any.

But I made these last night and I swear if somebody doesn't come take them away from me, then I'm going to eat them ALL and be a very sick fat lady by tomorrow.

They're extra chewy fudgy brownies, not cakelike at all, and holy crap they're the best brownies on earth.

3/4 c unsweetened cocoa powder
3/4 c melted butter
1 1/2 c sugar
2 eggs
1/4 tsp salt
1 c all-purpose flour
2 tsp vanilla extract

*best to mix everything by hand, not with an electric mixer*

Mix flour, cocoa powder, and salt together and set aside.
In another bowl, combine melted butter, sugar, and vanilla extract.
Beat eggs slightly, add them to this mixture, and mix well.
Gradually add flour mixture to the butter mixture, and stir just until blended.
Spread into a well-greased (use cooking spray) 9x13" pan and bake at 300 degrees for 30-35 minutes.

If you overbake them, they'll be really hard the next day, but you can soften them up in the microwave. If you keep them in for just 30 minutes, they might seem undercooked but they're not -- they're just really, really chewy/fudgy.

I also spread about a cup of chopped walnuts on top before I baked mine.

Now someone please come over and take what's left of the ones I made last night because I cannot force myself to stop eating them.

I'd love to make these, but i"m not allowed to make any desserts except thanksgiving day and Christmas day between now and spring, haha. My hubby and I have made a pact. We're working hard not to get too chunky over the holidays! I usually gain 10 lbs over the holidays! And I realize being preggo means I SHOULD gain some weight, but I can do that without extra dessert!

But I definitely saved the recipe and sent it to my mom so I can pull it back out come springtime! Hehe!

I'm hoping someone can help me. I have a recipe for an apple cake. It calls for 4-6 apples but I want to use apple sauce instead. Any ideas as to how much I'd need? I used a box apple cake from tastefully simple and it called for 2cups chopped apples or 1 1/2cups apple sauce if that helps.

Quoting preggo again~!!:“ so im just curious how are you ladies doing your turkey this year?....i was watching paula dean and she did a herb butter rub that im going to try this year it looked so yummy~!!”

Jenn's so good you wanna smack the turkey, turkey
1 stick of butter
fresh rosemary thyme and garlic(the little bunches in the produce dept are perfect)
1 turkey.....duh!
1 red delicious apple (or similar varity)
1 cinnamon stick
1 small onion

bring butter to room temp and mash in a bowl.
Add rosemary, thyme and 2-3cloves of crushed garlic. Mix well
run hands under the skin of the turkey to losen from meat and make a pocket
in a microwave save dish, add 1/2 inch of water, 1/2 the apple and onion and a cinnamon stick. heat for about 30-60 seconds
add apple, onion, cinnamon and a head of garlic cut in half to the cavity of a thawed cleaned turkey
slather herb mix under and on top of turkey skin until completely coated.
take remaining sprigs of rosemary and thyme and add them either to the under part of the skin or the cavity.
roast at 350 for about 17 mins per pound or until the part between the leg and the breast hits 160. This should take about 4-5 hours for a 16 pound turkey

about half way through I suggest you start basting every 30 mins or so to keep it moist.

My husbands work Christmas party is coming up. They usually have a pot luck dinner but this year they decided to assign foods. We got stuck with a veggie tray. BORING! I was looking forward to showing my skills. LOL anywho, I decided I could have a little fun with the veggie dip, soooo does anyone have a good veggie dip recipe? Nothing too spicey. They're Marines but they're all wusses. LOL and there will be kids there anyway. Thanks in advance

I have a question ladies...

What are your non-traditional family-tradition holiday foods?

I'm talking something other than turkey/stuffing/ham/yams/pies/etc. Something that you don't typically see on your average american's thanksgiving table.

Anything? I'm thinking of starting some new traditions for our family since we're finally going to BE a family when this bean arrives, so any ideas you have would be great!

Here's one thats a tradition in our household.... btw.. this will be the first thanksgiving my DH and I are away from our family, but we are still going to have a feast...LOL.. left overs will be great!

It's called Chicken Kelaguen... or Spicy Lemon Chicken....

2 to 3 lbs whole chicken fryer
1 cup of grated coconut (optional)
1/2 cup of lemon juice
1 Tbs of Salt
6 small hot peppers (optional or less)

Cut chicken in half and sprinkle with salt. Place in a broiler pan or do over charcoal. Broil for 20 minutes only as the chicken should be thoroughly cooked. Turn over and broil for another 5 minutes. De-bone, chop or grind. Mix all ingredients in a bowl. Chill at least one hour. Serve with tortillas or crackers.
This is great with anything! Tortillas, Rice... etc...

That looks really good. Maybe I'll make it with turkey as a next-day lunch for leftovers! My hubby would probably love it! Thanks for the recipes.

Keep it going ladies!!!

(oh and for the previous poster...we do prime rib for New Years...we go to his parent's for Christmas, so all I have to do for Christmas is eat and look cute, hehe).

Here's another one....

Shrimp Patties...

These delicious shrimp patties could also be a main dish or a terrific hot appetizer!
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 cans Carnation evaporated milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 5 cups flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 bag mixed vegetables
  • 1 box of frozen shrimp
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 tbs. Garlic powder
  • Salt, Pepper, Tabasco to taste

Mince onion finely. Mix all dry ingredients together. Chop shrimps coarsely, add onions and mixed vegetables. Add eggs and milk with dry ingredients until smooth batter. Add shrimp, onion and mix vegetables to batter. Batter should be thick enough that when it is dropped into hot oil it does not break apart (i.e. pancake batter). Heat oil for deep frying. Drop 1/3 cup of batter (about 2-3 tbs.) into hot oil and wait till golden brown and rises to the top.

(SORRY DON'T HAVE A PIC)

See? I'm a genius! TURKEY!!! I freaking love turkey!

And the shrimp patties sound great too. but I'll have to put those on the list for next year since I'm limiting my fish/shellfish intake during pregnancy (and I had crabcakes for dinner night before last, hehe). But I'll save the recipe for my hubby to look at!
