Boy troubles

posted 10th Sep '08
OK, I am asking this question for 2 of my friends that have little boys. So all you mommies with toddler boys please help.

Both are age 4 and have started the "humping" stage. One of the boys prefers his stuffed animals at night time and the prefers his sippy cup at bed time.

Any suggestions on how to approach the topic with them about the "natural" desire but the proper restraint?

The little boy with the sippy cup has a very open mom who has told him about where babies come from in specific (she is due anyday with their 2nd baby). The little boy who prefers animals is a little more reserved on what she tells her little one.

Any advice would be appreciated!

I generally believe for a child to hump something they have to have seen it somewhere before. Explaining to your child where babies come from and them knowing the action are two totally different things! I would ask the child where they've seen such action before and explain to them that it's not funny or cute to do that. Could you imagine if she was in public and someone saw the kid do that and decided to call social services? They better get a reign on it like now!

I have 3 step sons, ages 3, 5, and 7. And I can tell you none of them have ever humped anything. I would guess its a stage though. The boys definitely play with their little wieners in the tub, but I have never seen them hump anything....lol

you don't need a heads up...its not a normal thing to do....like the other momma the only reason they would be doing that is if they saw it somewhere....its not like a natural thing....

It is a natural thing for them to play with themselves, but not to hump things. I have a ton of nephews, and have babysat tons of little boys, and have NEVER heard of this.

ummm....I have 5 boys, ages 1-15, I have not seen this humping stage of which you speak.
Now I know about boys and girls playing with themselves or experimenting. That is normal. And boys definitely love their little buddies, but the humping stage....I am stumped.

I didn't think it was normal lol. Gosh I would be mortified though if my son just started humping someones leg or something like that. haha Of course I would probably bust out laughing if I saw someone elses kid do that.

I don't believe a 4yr. old humping is human nature, maybe when they get older and realize what's going on down there. For a child to know the humping is something else, at that age all they know is it's fun to play with myself but I don't know why, unless someone has made a joke out of it or made them think this is a funny thing to do.
