re: Using the word retard maliciously

I do say things like that's retarded, but I have never referred to someone with mental disabilites, or learning disabilities as retarded. I have on the other hand witnessed rehabilation center neglect. My uncle was jumped, and was kicked in his head, leaving a boot imprint in his face for 2 months, and swelling of his brain, and was mistreated in the facility, but I'm not saying all facilites are like that.

My brother was in the car wreck with my mom. And he was as nomal as me n you before the wreck. Well after the wreck n his coma he thought he was 6 instead of 15 at the time. Well he just went to this center when he was 21. They have 2 cottages...B and D. At first when he got there he was n cottage D, its where you have the handicaps that cant really take care of themselves, but can do a lil..he loved it n that cottage, all the staff were great to him and he even became close to them. Well the main head person of the place decided to switch him to cottage B, cottage B is more of ppl taking care of themselves. Which clearly my brother couldnt do yet.
I had a fall out with the head person , asking them to switch him back to D. But he wasnt doing it.
The nurses in B were use to the ppl in their cottages taking care of themselves. So to me they were lazy.
For one , my brother was having bathroom problems....were he wasnt making any bowel movements.
Well they were charting that he was using the restroom when he wasnt. Well the stool had backed up in his intestines for so long the his intestines had exploded, causing all the toxics to enter his blood stream shutting down his organs.
Note:* My brother still thought he was 6 even tho, he was 22.
My brother could not fend for himself. I miss him so much. And the ppl that were in his cottage that had mental problems......were great too. Their ppl just like we are normal or not.
I hate the freakin word retard, I dont care if your callin a cat a retard, it burns me up to know how much ppl use it,......Im not going to say Ive never used it in the past, cause I have.
Now, I just hate the freaking word, period. I know , what you ladies are prob thinking, well its because of what you went through with your brother. Yep thats part of it, but not all of it.
I just would hate to be in those ppls shoes that have mental problems.
I just dont see what the would retard accomplishes when we use it. Thats all. theres other words besides that one.

As I asked before though does anyone really want the word "retard" back in order to use in reference to people with developmental disabilities? I was always taught to never use that term in regards to disabled people because its not politically correct.

I guess Im just having some feelings left over my brother.

Oh just wanted to add my 2 cents. I'm not sitting here acting like I'm perfect. It's slipped before. I've said that's retarded.

But, I watch what I say, sometimes it slips.
