INDUCTION STORIES PLEASE!

posted 9th Sep '08
Ok Time is winding down foe me.. i was due sunday and still no baby. ive tried everything but nothing will send me into full blown labor. ive been having alot of mild contractions but nothing to go to the hospital over! by thursday my dr. is gonna set up an induction date. I am 100% against induction. almost to the point that i might not even show up at the hospital i'm THAT terrified. I really wanna hear some stories good and bad cause i really am going to refuse it. how long did it take? how bad were contractions..etc.

I've been induced twice and never found it to be something to fear at all. I had a hard delivery with my first but it would have happened anyway, regarless of how I went into labor. My second was a breeze. I went it the night before, had Cervidil put in and it worked for one but not the other. They broke my water in the morning and started the picocin drip and I had one baby at 11:30am and one at 1:20pm. The contractions were no worse than anybody else's and I got an epidural both times when I needed it.

Have they tried stripping your membranes??? It's a more natural way to start labor without the meds of induction...

I've never been induced, but will be on Thursday. I'm curious too of the ups and downs to this. I'm ready to have my LO here, but nervous about being induced.

If youre that against it dont do it.

I never really understand when ppl are SO dead set against it.

I guess I feel the MY dr has my best interest in mind...

I was induced with dd. I will be induced again this time (dd was for med reasons- this time it will be for scheduling reasons)

I was already like you- having mild contractions when i went it.

It can be even longer for first time mothers they say. I was actually only in HARD labor for 6 hrs which is pretty good for a first time/induction
The contractions are hell... But even regular labor is no picnic.
Not having anything to compare it to since she was my first labor- I didnt know it was any worse than any other woman went through.

its really not that bad, they make sure the baby is ok and safe to come out. i was induced due to low fluids, under 12 hours later my girl was born. why are you against it?

You really don't want to go over 2 weeks past due though. When you wait too long, your placenta begins breaking down or 'aging' and your baby gets less nutrients and you run the risk of an abruption.

I was induced 11 days past due. I also waited until the very last minute because I really did not want an induction. But it was not nearly as bad an experience as I thought it would be. I got there early in the morning around 5 am. They inserted a balloon (foley) catheter to dilate my cervix. About an hour after that, they started pitocin. About 3 hours after that, I was at 4 cm in full blown labor. When I hit 6 cm, I got the epi. The epi made my blood pressure drop but they got it back up with lots of fluids. It also stalled my labor completely, so I had them shut it off. Once it was off, labor progressed very quickly and within a couple of hours I started pushing. I pushed for 20 minutes and had my son in my arms by 7:24 pm.

I wish you luck and hopefully your baby will decide to make an entrance before you have to be induced!

I was so against being induced also, They induced me a week early because she wasnt moving like she was supposed to. they gave me cervadil, for 12 hours and it didnt help any. they started pitocin at 5 am and broke my water at 7 30 am. i was having mild contractions. they gave me stuff to ease the pain i was having contractions every 2 minutes. the stuff they gave me knocked me out and when i woke up the pain was bad so i got the epidural, which i didnt want. but with being induced the contraction are far worse than when you go into labor yourself. your body has no time to adjust. after that i progressed fairly quickly and at my little girl at 5 32 pm that day. i had some complications afterwards but not due to the inducing.

I went to the hospital at 7 am went to the bathroom a million times got changed into the gown, set up in the bed etc. The nurse set up the iv drip and all the things that connect to monitor the contractions and everything else. Throughout that afternoon I got pitocin, a catheter bag, my water broken by the ob, and the epidural. I only had two contractions and can not remeber what they felt like before asking for the epi ( Im a wuss). The epi wore off a lil and they sent the anest. to refill it. Then I start to feel the pressure of him sitting in my pelvic area and pushed for about 10 mins tops and he was born at 10:46 pm.
After a certain point I was not allowed to get outta bed Im assuming the epi but it could of been before that?
After another point I was not allowed to have anything but ice chips, which severely sucked all I wanted was a coke (first request post delivery)!
Why are you so against the inducement?
I am hoping that that is what I will get done with this one also.
Good Luck!
It was simple and painless for me except being thirsty as hell. I couldve delievered all day (with the epidural) its the pain the few days after delivery that sucks worse than anything.

all i can tell you is i was induced with my youngest daughter and they (instead of useing patosin) desided to use a dolly bulb. ' A dolly bulb is a lille baloon like thing they stick in yours cyrvix then they air it up and hang a weight off the edge of the bed. it forces you to dialate. Not to scare but it hurts. Just thank god for meds...lol

Quoting Mimi [Lily's Mommy]:“ why are you against it?”

because ive heard the worst stories about pitocin and im afraid of it. i heard it makes the contractions unbrearable and my dr. told me that 50% of inductions fail. i always had a fear of dying during delivery and induction just heightens my fears. i don't know why..

dont go by what others tell you. Yes- it CAN make your contractions worse-- but some women will say they didnt notice a difference.

Do some online research or something bc everyones labor experience is different-- just bc one induced girl had a horrible delivery doesnt mean you will ya know?

Im sure that inductions fail. Idk anyone who had one that failed though.
