awww...Ijust wanted to hug that guy.

Ihave several friends in the military, and a few of them have expressed those sentiments to me.
I had a friend telling me that he's scared a democrat will get into office, because his equipment is already old, and the cuts of funding will only make things worse.

I pray for our troops every night, and for their families. I thank God everyday that there are still people that are willing to risk life and limb to make the world a better place for everyone.

I have seen this video on some other posts but have never taken the time to watch it until now and Im glad that I did. I agree that Obama is wrong in what he said and agree with the troop in the video.

He shouldnt be afraid then, Obama has pledged to spend more money updating equipment and making sure they have the tools that they need. he has actually voted for more new equipement than McCain has:
Today, John McCain gave a speech where he tried to paint Barack Obama as opposed to funding for the troops. In response the Obama campaign released a list of McCain’s votes against funding for the troops. Let’s take a look at some of those votes.
In his speech at the American GI Forum, McCain said about Obama, “And as our troops took the fight to the enemy, Senator Obama tried to cut off funding for them. He was one of only 14 senators to vote against the emergency funding in May 2007 that supported our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. He would choose to lose in Iraq in hopes of winning in Afghanistan. But had his position been adopted, we would have lost both wars.”
From the Obama campaign here is a list of some of the things McCain voted against, “Obama Voted for and McCain Voted Against $360 Million for Armored Vehicles for Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2005, Obama voted for and McCain voted against providing $360.8 million for armored tactical wheeled vehicles for units deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan and $5 million to establish ballistics engineering research centers at two major research institutions. The measure against which McCain voted also required such centers to advance knowledge and application of ballistics materials and procedures to improve the safety of land-based military vehicles. [HR 2863, Vote 248, 10/5/05, Passed 56-43: R 13-42 D 42-1 I 1-0]”
McCain voted twice against repealing the capital gains tax cut and applying the savings to replace equipment used by the Army and Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan, “A week later, prior to the issuance of a conference report regarding that measure, Obama voted for and McCain voted against a measure to “insist that conference report include funding to strengthen America’s military, as contained in Senate-passed amendment, instead of any extension of tax cuts for capital gains and dividends (which do not expire until 2009), as contained in House-passed bill.” [HR 4297, Vote 8, 2/2/06, Passed 44-53: R 1-52 D 42-1 I 1-0; HR 4297, Vote 18, 2/14/06, Failed 45-55: R 1-54 D 43-1 I 1-0]”
McCain voted against providing an additional $322 million for troop equipment and body armor. [S 1689, Vote 376, 10/2/03, Passed 49-37: R 46-0 D 2-37 I 1-0; National Journal’s CongressDaily, 10/3/03]. He also voted against $1 billion in new equipment for the National Guard. . [S 762, Vote 116, 4/2/03, Passed 52-47: R 51-0 D 1-46 I 0-1]
McCain also has numerous votes against increased funding for veterans’ health care. [HR 4297, Vote 7, Failed 44-53: R 1-52; D 42-1 (ND 38-1, SD 4-0); I 1-0; 2/2/06 HR 4939, Vote 98, 4/26/06, Passed 84-13, D 41-0; R 42-13; I 1-0; The Independent Budget, A Budget for Veterans by Veterans, 2/10/06; Newsweek, 1/19/06] McCain did vote for tripling veterans’ health care fees, while he opposed increased funding for veterans’ health care.
So, John McCain, this supposed friend of the troops and American patriot has voted against equipment, medical care, and the new GI Bill for the troops. It seems that in McCain’s eyes the troops are only good for fighting. He doesn’t care if they have the right equipment while they are in battle or the proper care when they come home. If this is the definition of a patriot, then I would rather do the right thing by the people in the military and be called a traitor. John McCain was a hero as a soldier, but he has betrayed a generation of those who serve, by putting his own ambitions ahead of his moral duty to those who serve.

no. obama hasn't messed up...

i don't really see the connection at all.

you guys have to stop letting these bollocks ad campaigns dictate the way you think (from either side of the fence).

i'm going to quote myself b/c i just talked about this yesterday in another post:

romanticizing this senseless occupation/war/hegemonic-death-fart is bad for everyone's mental health.

war sucks. it just plain blows goats. especially this bull w/ iraq right now.

people are dying... good people. people who would have been wonderful fathers to their new babies. people who were mothers. people who were loved and needed here in america for their honesty, hard work ethic, independence, loyalty, and drive...

and instead they're trying to stabilize bumblefuck iraq.

many of the surviving soldiers/iraqis are now injured mentally and physically to the point they have great difficulty re-entering their lives and their families as sane healthy and happy humans.

and yet we stay... although bush already declared the mission accomplished in -- uh, 2004 or 5... (time flies).

why do we stay??

so that the iraqis may have water. so that we may further enrage the natives who's country is grinding itself (w/ the help of america) into a civil war that begets new young disillusioned terrorists every day. jihad isn't such a terrible notion if your life is utter emotional chaos-- fear, death, uncertainty, living on the edge trying to find enough food to eat, a place that isn't going to be bombed to sleep-- that has water and heating.

b/c we have no business fixing other people's broken crap until our own is above reproach... and certainly not a country half way around the world w/ virtually nothing in common w/ us save loads of that nasty-but-useful oil.

fighting/killing other people is not what keeps us free, it just breeds more violence, more fear, and that is not freedom ... it's humanity struggling w/ it's animal-side and losing.

I was just repeating what he said to me. And, I'm glad he shouldn't have a reason to be afraid, then.
I honestly didn't read your whole post. I'm kind of horribly sick of politics at this time. That's why I didn't say something referring to whether or not I thought he was right or wrong.
I don't care. lol.
Not now.
A week before the election, I'll get into some hardcore research and decide then. As of right now, I don't care.

I agree... I honestly believe Bush's intentions weren't to help those people in Iraq he just needed a way to get to the oil.Its all about money at the end of the day.... All of the people that protested against the war in Iraq alreadyknew, but the majority of us were mislead...

This video makes me mad, I'm sorry. It mad me the first time I saw it and I'm frustrated to see it in here again.

And Dev and Mara have already said where it's wrong and inaccurate and why Obama supports our troops more.

But the play on emotions that goes on in this video just upsets me greatly. It upsets me that whoever made this is using the heroic acts and sacrifices of our soldiers as a tool to get people to vote for McCain. I know of quite a few soldiers or former soldiers in my own life who are upset with the way Iraq was handled. I've even heard a few of them call it an outright mistake, or say that certain decisions that were made along the way were mistakes. Does that mean they love their country any less or are any less ready to sacrifice themselves for this war? No, not at all.

Maybe not everyone sees the video this way, but after having my stepfather serve 2 tours in Iraq during this war alone, and then lose the man who was once his best friend during this war, it just really upsets me...it feels like they are using the troops, basically.
