College Mommy- to-be & absent minded/scatterbrained

posted 6th Sep
I'm 11 wks pregnant and about to start up my Junior year. As with most pregnant women, I have been experiencing a lot of disorientation in the memory department. I can't seem to stay focused on anything...and I worry constantly about stuff wayyy in the future (like researching local elementary/high schools). Well anyway, besides basic common sense, any ideas regarding studying and actually retaining the information...? haha. I am a good student, but I must admit I have never really had to study...now I believe I will be daydreaming about baby all through the lectures so I may have to actually read the course material.
I am new to BG, so if anyone who is in a similar situation wants to talk, that would be great   I'm excited to meet some college mommies! Also any advice related to college & being pregnant would be greatly appreciated.

Humm I may not be much help ...

But .. Ive found the best way that I learn is by conversation or debate. Just discussing the topic out loud with someone.

So find a study partner or if in class its an open conversation be sure to participate. Talking about it may help it stick? Good luck!

Thank you   That actually is good advice. The only problem is, I sort of feel strange at the university because most students live in the dorms and are already friends before they enter a class....soo I am that girl who is married, looks like she's 16 (I'm almost 21 though) who no one has seen at any parties. And now, I'll also be "that pregnant girl" haha. It is sooo worth it ;)

Ugh I didnt go to college long (regretfuly so I respect you for that) ...

I went to college 4 hours south of my hometown and didn't know anyone.
But I lived in an appartment off campus and had a VERY controlling boyfriend who lived and stayed back in my hometown ... who for some bananas reason I allowed to control my every move and surprisingly enough as hesitant as I was to make friends ...probably a little more explanation than you wanted lol ...

I actually did ... I found people to study with. So you never know. Maybe there will be some other pregnant chicks haha ... but maybe even if you make hubby listen to you or make him discuss it with you if the study friend fails. You never know you might make some pretty good friends. I wasnt the party girl type at all while I was in school ... i would have loved to find someone who wasnt allllll about the parties. They're out there, lol just gotta find 'em

Also when my mom went back to school once us kids were old enough ... she got a recorder ... and she would study outloud and record and when she would drive to school she would play it back or while she was cooking .... recording helped her out a lot ...

Thats a good idea!! I'm sorry about the boyfriend :/ I feel lucky to have a supportive husband, but at the same time, he has absolutely zero interest in what I am interested in (as for as academia is concerned). I have made 2 friends in the last 2 years at school haha... one is a younger guy and the other was a girl who graduated last year (sad, because we really hit it off!). I guess I will just need to be more outgoing...haha. It is weird, because I had no problems in high school   But then again, I was very actively involved in sports and student government. At SOU, I literally just show up to my classes and afterward, go home.

Eh the boyfriend thing is long gone, happily married now   ... and one day i will be returning to school and I'm sure I'll be thinking back on my advice and asking myself can i really do that? lol ...

So give it a shot, you never know. Also ask your teachers about study groups or put up a post or something ... see who responds.

I'm not much of a starbucks drinker but I do enjoy hot chocolate ... and if you found someone to study with places like that are fun to go and sit and discuss ... relaxing yet educational haha.

Yeah I am taking five classes online this semester. I talk to people way too much online. I am on the computer almost the entire time my baby is sleeping or having down time. I feel bad sometimes because I need to talk to other (communications major religion and ROTC minors) lol. I recently transferred to move in with my then fiance now hubby. He is so good about weekends and me having to do homework. I am taking five classes this semester, and my son is 3 months old. So he was here a month before this semester. I had really horrid baby brain last semester. I was living on my own 110 miles away from my hubby.   Then we moved in together and got married. Our son came 3 weeks premature but he is healthy as a horse. But then our apartment had a meth lab explode next door two weeks into this semester. So...that was distracting on top of trying to do all online classes. It sucked. We are all happier now in our house, no more apartments lol. But yeah school and relating to all the students that ONLY seem to want to go out and drink gets old. I figure once my career gets going I will make friends then.
