how long did your baby sleep in the room with you???

posted 6th Sep
Our lease is up next month and we are living in a one bedroom apartment. We plan on putting the crib in our bedroom and having our lil guy sleep in the room with uswhen he is born next month. My question is at what point do they need to be in another room. Is signing a one year lease too long? At one they are already walking and such so I wondering if that is too long (we want our privacy too and there are certain things you can get away with when they are babies that you can't when they are a year obviously haha) From personal experience I would like to know at which point you were happy to have your baby in another room, 6 mo 9 months a year??? Before we lock ourselves into a year lease I need to make sure thats a good idea.. HELP MAMAS THANKS!

Our son is 17 months and is still in the same room as us even though we do have an extra room that we are going to make into his. We've just been too lazy/busy to get it cleaned out since it's pretty much been a storage room for us.

my experience with my daughter is we had to share because we were staying with his parents, but by the time she was 11 1/2 months we moved to our own place, she took to being in her own room very well, she didn't seem to notice a difference.

But my mother in law told me about how my Husband when he was a baby used to stay with them in the same room from the time he was born, she tried at around 9months to a year to put him in his own room. But it was more difficult for her. not only did they share a room but she co-slept. so needless to say my hubby is a momma's boy he slept in his parents bed until he was almost 18months old and even then he'd still crawl in bed thruought the night to sleep with her...

Our little girl start sleeping in her own room at 4 months. I wanted her to sleep in our room for longer but it wasnt in her best interest. And at 4 months she was sleeping through the whole night..

I think it's all up to you, your SO and your baby. Depends what you're all comfortable with, and probably how your baby sleeps at night. I had my daughter sleeping in a bassinet in my room until she was 8 weeks old. I put her in her own room because she was sleeping through the night, and my husband and I didn't have to be as quiet getting into bed, etc. I love it now. Her crib is no longer just for show. She sleeps 9pm till 8am and she's almost 10 weeks now. I bought a video monitor that I have set up and I can see her sleeping in her crib, and that's reasuring. Some people keep their babies in the same room with them for6 months, 1 year, or longer. Some put them in their own room from the start, it's all a personal decision.   Good luck!   Oh and also, I know lots of people are comfortable having sex while baby is in the room, I wasn't one of them. We tried once while she was in her basinet sleeping one night, and she just made a sound and I was SO done, lol, I couldn't do it.

And what is it like if he knows your awake does he stand up in his crib and want to be played with and stuff?? Is it hard to have intimacy with your husband? At 12 months what are they like?? Sorry I'm a new mama so you would know better then me that's why I am asking

Ya we are not co-sleeping! He will be in his crib to sleep I just wonder if at 12 months if he will be too used to us in the room even if hes not in bed with us and it will be a hard transition...

With my first 2, they both slept in our room until they were 3 mths maybe 4 mths old. After that we just put them in their own room and they were fine. I plan on the same thing with this baby as well..it worked for us the first 2 times around. But we will see, my hubby is in Iraq, so I may let the baby stay a little longer in my room just for comfort or to be near me.

He does think he's supposed to get up if he knows we are awake. That's about the only bad part about it. But luckily he's a hard sleeper so he doesn't wake up easily. Even when my alarm clock goes off, he sleeps right through it. As far as intimacy, we have a huge sleigh bed. His bed is at the foot of ours and he can't see us from his bed (we use a pack n play for his bed). TMI, but we're not loud at all with our intimacy. If we really want to get into things then we go to another room or have someone watch him when we know we may get a little frisky such as anniversaries, birthdays, etc.

My son isn't here yet but I have it set in my head that he's going to be sleeping in his own room at 6 months after the risk of SIDS is over. I know that sounds crazy but if he's in my room, I'll be able to watch him sleep.

during the entire time which was up to 11 months when we shared a room with her she easily woke up if me or JC moved only usually if it was closer to morning (just too early for me) maybe around 6am and further if we made noise/moved around in the room... it was a little awkward and hard to be intimate, because we were not only having to be quiet for her but also we were living with his parents... so it was double weird... but it also sucked because part of the fun that gets me so hyped is hearing him make noise and he's the same about me... sorry if TMI.. so it wasn't as enjoyable.
