Dan's mom is always sticking her finger in Victoria's mouth for the same reason. We were so afraid of it too, but a friend of mine was giving her 8 month table food and the baby would just take it, mash it up, and spit it out. It was so weird, but she said that the baby's gag reflex was farther up then ours so they'll spit it/cough it up way before choking - now I don't know if that's true, but I watch Vi eat and I can see her working the food. She sometimes coughs it up, but she goes right back to eating after. If you get worried just fish the food out. You can always start with softer foods like bananas or overcooked green beans.

oh yeah... if its big bites (which it most likely won't be because of only having 4 teeth) she'll learn to chew it with her front teeth and keep it in her cheeks till shes ready to swollow it.

well she eats eggs and bananas and mashed potatoes....but she wants everything lol

Sammi - Vi's the same way. Wants to put her hands in everything. I usually let her try to bite a piece off with her front teeth, if she gets a piece then she'll try to eat it. If not, she'll keep trying. I say let her try it. I am so afraid to limit what Vi eats because I don't want her to be a picky eater.

I think thats how I became a picky eater. lol.

Then again you don't want to make her eat something she doesn't like. My MIL was like that when Kat tried something that she didn't like. It almost made her gag but MIL was all "We can't be picky" and tried to keep feeding it to her.

It's been real slow in here, but that's ok I can keep up now.

Hey Brandi! I miss you ! How have you been? Are you on Facebook?!?!?  

Hi Brandi, long time.. how are things? how is Brex? .. is he as big as Riley? Riley was 28lbs at his 1 year.. we stillneed to book his 15m appt though.. has to be over 30 now!

Sammi- Riley eats all sorta of stuff, .. I started him on solids at 5 months, cuz he hated baby jar foods.. she can eat anythign you eat .. jsut make sure to give small pieces.. I usually decided on the size based on how much work is involved in breaking it down. ... like chicken... white meat.. was VERY tiny, .. cuz can't really chew it smaller.. but he liked the taste.. so gave very small (pea) sized pieces...
but then I used to give him peas and carrots, like the frozen mixed ones.. all the time and he eat them himself.. cuz they mush on their own.. after boiling them

also can switch up mashed potatoes for boiled or baked, and give small pieces, .. knowing she can mash it herself in her mouth...just cut small cubes.

also cheese is good, in very small pieces, .. now he is worked up to long strips.. cuz he knows how to bite and chew..

I would avoid anythign slippery for now though, like peaches.. cuz they coudl slide into her throat before she chews.. and are hard to get back out if stuck.

(also, google baby hymlick(sp) and atleast learn the basics incase you do run into trouble.. but remember this simple rule... if they are cough .. they are breathing.. give them a chance to get it out on their own... if you put finger in, you could lodge it farther and make things worse... it's when they stop choking or coughing , means not getting air, and to flip them on tummy in your arms and use one arm on the back and bang flat handed upwards on the back... slightly keep thier head lower then body... and food shoudl dislodge.. and call 911 ASAP.)

Hi Brandi! Long time no chat...Congrats!!

Sammi- Gavin eats mostly what we eat but he goes through phases where he doesn't want chunky stuff so we give him baby food or really mashed up stuff. It mostly happens when he is teething bad and doesn't want to chew anything. Bailey should be ok if you give her really small pieces and soft foods.
