Bertini M5 Shuttle - infant seat compatible?

posted 11th Jan '05
I am expecting my first child and am very interested in the Bertini M5 for a variety of reasons. One of the main ones is that I would like a stroller that will work for the mall as well as the rough roads in my neighborhood (we have no sidewalks and it is a wilderness area).

I have read many reviews on the Bertini, all of which have said it is not infant seat compatible. When I look at the manufacturer's site it says that an infant seat compatible attachment is available. Has anyone here used an infant seat with the Bertini? Or if anyone has the Bertini and feels that the infant seat option is not neccessary I would appreciate this input as well. For me this is the only drawback for this stroller.

Unfortunately there are no dealers for the Bertini in my area so I cannot check it out in person. Any input you may have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Here's the deal with the Bertini M5: you'll have to purchase the adaptor bar as an accessory for around $25 extra.

Regarding your questions: I don't know that it's truly a drawback that Bertini has no (pre-installed) infant carrier adaptor. For about the first three months of your child's life you will feel that the infant carrier to stroller transition (and back) is lovely and convenient. Around the fourth month you will probably be grunting to put the carrier in or out of the stroller as your child will really be gaining weight at that point-- and will be crossing over from an infant carrier sometime soon.

It's a matter of personal preference though-- for $25 you can stick most any infant carrier in the M5 and be good to go. Another way to think of it: the added infant carrier convenience for those 3-4 "light-baby" months would be cost you about $7-8 extra per month.

If you want to purchase the adaptor just check this link at baby universe:

They also sell the M5 for $299.00.

If you want more information about the M5, you can always read our review:

Personally, it's one of my favorite strollers on the market, and I think the travel system concept is a bit over-rated. (That's my opinion, some parents love it).
Good Luck!

Mara -

Thank you for your input. I kind of feel the same way you do about travel systems, but everyone seems to push them. I don't like the idea that your baby spends so much time in its infant car seat. I've read a lot about the Bertini M5 though and I'm now thinking that with its weight, it probably isn't realistic that I'll be loading it into the car and taking it to the mall. I'm now considering getting a stroller for the neighborhood and then another lighter weight one for the mall/traveling.

There are so many choices out there! I'm glad I have started looking early and have time to figure it out!

Thank you again for your help.

I have been using a travel system from Peg Perego for about three months now, and I agree with what's being said , I really find my Primo Viaggo carrier a nuisance to remove or attach to its base and it doesn't seem to want to even get into the stroller itself. I'm at the post-purchasing regret phase with the carrier-- i really think we paid way too much for it. My husband just hates getting it in and out of the car. If we ever have another child, we are definitely going to skip the infant carrier thing-- it's too much trouble for the money.
