Your childs education

posted 5th Sep
My husband and I have decided that we will home school our son/future babies. This decision came from his home school experience and my public school experience. I feel I can teach much my son better than any public facility and if the need comes that I need to work, I will only send him to a Christian Classical education private school.

what are you takes on education?

Public school, I went to private schools as a kid and I didn't like it.

I live in Canada not the US. But I'm a teacher and probably won't be sending my child to public education if that's an indication as to what I think about it. The gov't uses Pub Ed as an excuse to force teachers to indoctrinate the population about what they think the "truths" are and essentially slowly take over the role of the parent.

Public schools all the way, unless for some reason we have to move to an area were the schools are horrendous, then we will do private.

I do not believe in homeschooling in most cases, esp. for religious reasons.

I will be home schooling but I may have my children attend a few classes in public school, like art or music classes

Me personally I believe that it is good for a child to go to school rather than homeschooling. Not that homeschooling is bad, but social skills are developed when you go to school. I have known children who were home-schooled b/c their parent's were afraid after all the school shootings and these girls didn't have any real friends they stayed online all the time. I guess there are pros and cons to everything, I just think that it helps the child to have to interact with other children their age

I went to public schools and I never had much of an issue. I have a lot of friends that went to private schools, and some had good experiences, some had bad. Same with friends that have been home schooled. It all comes down to your personal preference. We've been talking and toying with the idea of home schooling a lot. There's just so many horror stories with teachers and fellow students now. My boyfriend's main concern was socializing, but there's always ways to get through that, with play groups and scouts and stuff.

I couldn't agree more. My husband is also teacher and he cant stand the public school system.

Public, I want my children to be involved in activities with children of all cultures and to be exposed to the real world. Nothing wrong with private or home schooling.

Public school. The private schools where we live are all parochial and I think that kids need the socialization that doesn't really come with home schooling. Plus, I wouldn't think for a second that I would be patient enough to home school. To each his own, but I'd hope that parents would make the decision to home school based on their child's needs, not their own past experience with either public or private school.

We have great public schools here.

I went to a christian private school for awhile and let me tell you. Those kids are worse at that school, then the kids at the public school. yikes

I think homeschooling shelters the kids. Then once they get out in the real world, they go crazy. Atleast the ones I know.

well that's why you get them involved in extracurricular activities, such as church groups, boy/girl scouts, music lessons, dance. sports

At first I was against home schooling because I thought kids would be anti-social, but my cousin home schools her three children and they are the most polite, friendly children I've ever seen!  I don't have the option to home school my future children, so public school it is!  We are purposely planning on leaving Las Vegas in a couple years so our son DOES NOT attend public school here!
