Babies and other babies...

posted 5th Sep
My daughter's 4 months old, and has been spending a couple of afternoons a week with my sister & her kids while I'm in class.  My sister's littlest is almost a year & a half, and loves having my daughter around--you know how babies love other babies.  Well, the last few times I've gone to pick up Emme, Stevie (her 1.5 year-old cousin) has become really distressed, crying and inconsolable when Em leaves.  He's never had separation issues from his mom (she's a SAHM, so she's always around), but seems to have gotten very attached to my daughter.  It's very sad, and I have never seen it before.  Sure, little kids don't like it when friends leave, but I've never seen such a strong reaction.  Has anyone seen something like this before?  And what can we do to help him deal with it?

i used to watch my nephew every thursday and when he was about a year old he started this. every time his mom or dad would drop him off he would stand at the door and cry for like half an hour. we had to distract him in another room so they could sneek out with out him seeing them go. Mostly he would forget they were there and go on playing. Sometimes he would go looking for them and have a little crying fit then get over if. He grew out of it after about 2 months. try sneeking out with her wile he is playing in another room without her.

My daughter and her cousin (my sister's daughter) is almost 6 months apart and see each other several times a week...

Most of the time my daughter could care less if she saw her cousin..but her cousin's mood almost INSTANTLY changes when she spots my daughster ..She goes from grumpy to VERY HAPPY.

We all work in the family company so we are all a close family.. So my sister jokes she can't wait for me to come back to work so the kids can see each other again so her daughter's mood will improve.

Now somedays my daughter is just the same..she will be grumpy until she spots her cousin.. But most days she is pretty content to play by herself.

(my niece has 2 foster teenage"brothers" that my SIS & BIL are caring for so she is use to having constant attention).
