any teeth grinders out there?

I am a self diagnosed grinder. Lately I have had horrible headaches and my jaws hurt so bad when I wake up. Thought I might be grinding so I googled it. Question is- can you get a night guard or anything OTC to help? I can't really go to the dentist right now. thanks!

I am a terrible grinder...I have broken teeth before. I have looked and looked for an OTC guard with no luck. All I have been able to find is those sport's guards and there is no way I'd be able to sleep with those bulky things in my mouth. I thought about getting one of those dental trays that come with the teeth whiteners and using fixodent or something to keep it in place. Not sure if that's be a good idea though lol.
I finally just broke down and got one at the dentist. I go Monday to pick it up. Check around at different dentists because I had one wanting to charge me $300-$500 for one, when this dentist only charged me $165. I also had one quote me close to $1000 for one!
ETA - Have you tried getting Care Credit? Usually they have a really good intro offer, and the interest after isn't so bad either. A lot of dentists accept it and that is what I use for all my dental work.

hey ashley!
i'm not... but my husband is.. we got a night guard from the dentist was about 300.00before insurance and 150.00 after. but you can get one for Walmart in the medicine area for about 20.00-30.00 that can help you until then...
Lana's started grinding her teeth too... she does it during the day, when she sleeps, and i have no idea how to stop her. i've tried giving her a little pop to stop but she just looked at me like "what am i doing?" she doesn't realize it. so i started just prying her mouth open a little with my fingers so she's not rubbing teeth against each other... so far she's pretty much stopped, but one of the last times she drew blood on my finger she was grinding so hard...
