Does anyone else suffer migraines?

posted 4th Sep
I get really bad ones,..with colourful dots in my eyes/nausea/bedridden for min 12hr ones and i was wondering if anyone else got them?

Also,..if youre already a mum, how did you cope with a newborn/baby/child when you had a migraine?

But what if dads at work, and wont be home for 20mins or so? Also, if breastfeeding, how many panadeine can i take within 24hrs that is safe for baby?..I would normally take the maximum amount (6) over the 24hr period, and im worried this might harm bub through my milk.

I guess im also worried about breastfeeding while having a migraine as i get really sick & can barely stand or open my eyes.

So yucky

Thats what im most afraid of   My baby being in danger because im not 100% due to migraine symptoms. I havent got one since easter this year thank goodness, but before i was reg i generally suffered one about 1/month. I havent been able to work out what triggers them either and ive had them since i was 11. My final conclusion was that they are just from hormone levels etc Since i havent had one since the beggining of pregnancy when my hormones where totally out of wack.

I'm sure if you take them while pregnant you can take them while breastfeeding, but don't quote me on that, be sure to ask the doc. As for breastfeeding during a migrane, just lay down on the bed on your side, lay baby on their side facing you and just lay down, sleep and bf at the same time. If daddy's at work, when baby is newborn they sleep a lot so it really wont be a problem, but when they get bigger, maybe put them in a playpen close by with some toys to play with until daddy comes

Thanks for the advice   ive just been so worried about it lately thinking i wont be a good mum when i get one etc cause i wont be able to look after bub properly. I guess ill have to just wait and see when i get one. Im thnking that my 'motherly instinct' will kick in & no matter how bad the pain is ill get through it & still look after him like usual. Even the thought of having a migraine makes me feel yuck.

I know when I feel a migrane coming on, it doesn't get bad bad until daddy gets home. idk why...but dont worry mama. You'll be fine. If you cant take the meds while bfing, maybe there is a safe one to use during that time. Be sure to talk to the doc though, I know I've been going 7 months with horrible migranes and am just now going on monday. ugh

Oh boy - did I ever! I was diagnosed with migranes when I was 17 and a freshman in college. They kept me out of a lot of classes (I ended up having to withdrawl because of it), and I had them pretty consistently 2-4 times a month from then on. I had horrible ones at the beginning of my PG (up till about 13 weeks) and then they miraculously dissappeared! I didn't have another one unitl I was 36 weeks along. Since giving birth (Nov. 07) I've only had a handful of them - but that's when daddy steps in. Mine are so bad, I end up having to go to the hospital for demerol, and sleeping it off for the rest of the day. Dads can be a big help in situations like this! Good luck momma!
