so i was doing some grocery shopping in wal mart and i went to go get some boxes of mac and cheese, and i always buy the kraft brand cuz i just think it tastes better. well i look and see they have a "value" pack of 5 boxes for $3.98 or i can buy individual boxes for $0.50 ....uuhh...really? five boxes individually for $2.50 or 5 boxes in some plastic wrap for $3.98
i just thought that was funny, just shows the importance of paying attention
Yep, I notice stuff like that all of the time. My husband's deodorant is cheaper individually vsa value pack of two.
Very rarely is it a better deal. Sad isn't it?
it happens a lot. you have to use a calculator sometimes to figure out the price of each item to see if it's worth buyign in bulk like that. but usually walmart has a sticker on the shelf that tells you the price per unit.
yeah i ALWAYS look at the PPU on the shelf. they don't do it with everything but when its there i always take it into consideration. it just makes you wonder how many people are out ther paying an extra dollar or two for plastic wrap
OMG! I'm like the nazi of price comparison, lol! I'm always looking at the individual as opposed to "Value Packs."You k now people generally don't pay attention to things like this and just assume they are saving money when they are in fact often losing money. Then again you take in to consideration, if it's a perishable product, am I going to use this before it goes bad? Because if you don't you're losing money nad wasting food. Anyways enough of that rant that damn plastic wrap better change into freaking gold when you remove it off the boxes.
I work at CVS and honestly, people go right by the cvs brand things when they're exactly the same and sometimes MUCH cheaper! My prenatal vitamins came in a pack of 300 for 19.99 where the exact same medicine in the Life Fitness brand were 39.99. What a lot of people don't know are that the medicine is made in the same factory as Life Fitness, then shipped to the CVS warehouse for packaging, so it is literally exactly the same.
I use to always carry a caculator in my purse so I can whip it out at anytime and do the math to see what kind of deal I'm getting on anything..
Sometimes the generic is the better deal..Sometimes buying indivually is a better deal.. Sometimes even with a coupon, I'm really not getting much of a deal..
My daughter ran off with my caculator the other day and now its "LOST" in the house along with everything else that is "lost" (that she loses).
I've had that thing for 5yrs and got it FREE ..I'm afraid to spend $$ on one, cause then it will go out within a year
