PP and swollen legs???

posted 4th Sep
I'm only 5-6 days PP, and since day two, My ankles have become tree trunks... the tops of my feet are too - sometimes to the point that I can barely wiggle my toes.

My calves are only a little bit swollen... but it's not going away.... I have been putting my feet up and drinking A TON of water.... like doctor said. I was so worried about it that I called them on Tuesday, and they asked me to come in for a blood pressure check. It was perfect (110/72) so they told me not to worry and that I'm probably doing too much. The really strange part to me is that I had almost NO swelling when I was pregnant. I love my little guy very much, and really I've only been getting up to take care of him - That shouldn't be too much, right? Please someone else tell me that they have had this problem, and if you did, how long it took to go away.

By the time I was 14 days PP my ankles and feet made their entrance again. My legs were so swollen they hurt bad and were hard as rocks. My cankles had cankles..seriously. it was from all the IV fluids they gave me. I left the hospital 4 days after birth weighing more than I did the day i went in to labot from all the water retention.

I had the same problem and I was drinking almost 6 litres of water a day to help it. I finally went to the doc and he said that it was probably a combo of things. He said keep drinking all the water even tho at the moment it's contributing to the swelling he said it would be worse if I stopped, also he said the fact that I had an epesiotomy and wasn't moving around too much meant that the fluid was pooling in my feet. It went away mostly by 4 wks and completely by 6wkpp

Could u see if they can prescribe you some water pills to get the excess water out of your body? I see a lot of ladies on the site docs have done that.

I'm breastfeeding - I don't think that's a good idea at all.

My little guy already pees more than normal... don't want him to get dehydrated!

But, trust me, it did cross my mind - until I remembered anything I eat, he eats.

i think i had swelling for about 8 or 9 days. Give it a few more days and one day you will wake up to skinny ankles.

Thank you everyone! I also had alot of IV fluids and I was induced, so alot of things were being pumped into me - strangely enough, the epi worked REALLY well on my left side, and the left leg is WAY worse than the right.....

I'm glad to know that it's normal, and the fact that it's showing no signs of going away is ok... alot of you had it much longer than I expected it to be!

Oh, I thought you can get them regardless. I think one lady was BF and was taking them and then continued. I think she pumped a lot then just bottle fed and then took the pills. I;ll have to ask her.

Yeah, thought about that too - but I'm a first-time, overly paranoid mommy...

His little tummy doesn't like the formula as much as mommy's milk... he actually overate formula one day - before my milk had fully come in, and gramma was feeding him - 30 minutes later, I got projectile vomit down the front of me... he screamed for 10 minutes for what seemed to be no reason at all.... I went to go and tell gramma that he didn't seem to be feeling good, and by the time I opened my mouth, he puked all down my front....   Any time I give him formula he spits up a little and gets fussy - his pediatrician said that it is normal and that switching would probably cause more upset than good...

It
It usually gets worse before it gets better. I was so embarssed for weeks b/c I was so swollen. It took almost 3 weeks for me to go back to normal.

I have never had any swelling after birth but my sister in law did, hers was really bad. She could push on her leg and it would leave an indintion in her leg from teh swelling.
