For those on bedrest

posted 1st Sep '08
Is there anyway to get rid of the pains that come along with bedrest? I have been on complete bedrest for 10 weeks already and within the past month or so my hips and back are starting to really get sore and hurt from laying down on my left side soo much. I have found that laying at an angle helps ease the pain but it never completely goes away. Do ya'll know of anything to do that helps you feel better or is it a downward hill until baby gets here?

I'm not on bedrest but I am amazingly sore. Everything hurts. My tail bone, my back, my hips, my ribs, EVERYTHING. And I can't lay on my left side what so ever. It hurts too much. My doctor said it was fine though. Just part of the pregnancy.

It sounds like that would be great but where do you get something like that at?

I was working too many hours and my doctor was goin to put me on bedrest but i cut back to working one job and only 2 days a week until the baby is born cuz i have been having back pain and my legs get sore at night sometimes too. i bought one of those pregnancy cuddle pillows which helped for a few weeks but now that my belly is gettin bigger i feel like i need a bed with a hole in it to be more comfortable. my friend thats on bed rest sleeps with pillows everywhere and she said that helps. im talking like 10 pillows. i hope u feel better i dont kno what i would do on bed rest i already hate sleeping lately cuz its so uncomfortbale and the moment i get relaxed and comfortable he starts kicking.

I got it on ebay! although after spending so long it got kinda squished and flat lol. After my previous pregnancies i would give anything to have made it to 32+ weeks. They advise here that you can come off it at 34 weeks and i think thats pretty reasonable, how long do you have to stay on it for? i hope it goes in quick for you!

I bought the full body pregnancy pillow also about 6 weeks ago, but after a few weeks it got saggy in spots and uncomfortable. Lol, I sleep with 7 pillows and it does seem to help a bit compared to not having anything. I love this little girl already and will do whatever it takes to get her here but I guess I'm just a whine-bag today .

Well I have a cerclage in and they said that after they take it out at 36 weeks I can get up and do whatever but not until then. She did say that once I hit 30 weeks though that I can get out once a week for 1-2 hours as long as I am in a wheelchair, so that's something I definately look forward to in the next 5 weeks. I just pray everything goes well until then and there are no more complications.

I just read your profile and it sounds like you have such a strong little boy. You are an amazing woman and I pray your son makes a complete recovery. May God truly bless you and your precious family!

Thank you so much! Ive heard other women getting cerclages actually having to be induced! just a shame there is no way of knowing who it holds so well for and who it doesn't. They say healthy babies from 32 weeks have no long term effects of prematurity, that was my goal for the pregnancy. I feel for you being stuck in bed alll the time cos it does get so uncomfortable its unreal - i know most 35 weekers go straight home with mum so im sure you could move around a bit before then

When I was on bed rest last time, I occasionally used a maternity belt while I was in bed. It is typically used to help support your belly when you are up and about but it helped to hold my hips and pelvis in place due to all the pressure from lying on my sides too long. Your body releases so much of the relaxin hormone that it moves so easily...you can try that and it is pretty inexpensive. Just a thought, 5 more weeks and you can enjoy some time outside again! Hope you feel better soon!

I've been on bed rest for only 8 weeks now and have found the only thing that seems to work for me is pillows, pillows and more pillows. I thinkthe hubby is going to end up on the floor if I put anymore in the bed. I read your profile and I am so sorry for your losses. I wish you the best of luck with your pregnancy.I'veread great things about cerclages. Not sure if you are familiar with the MSN Incompetect Cervix website, but I've founditto be very helpful for me since I've been on bed rest.I just recently found babygaga, which has been helpful too. I lost my first son at 23 weeksin December 2006 due to IC and now expecting a girl next month. The website is http://groups.msn.com/IncompetentCervixSupport. There are two message boards. When you click on this site, then choose "messages", you will find many situations that could be of help.   I haven't browsed the other board yet, but have found this one very easy to navigate.
