its about to fall out... need help

posted 31st Aug
Tallulah will be 2 weeks old tomorrow and her cord stump is about to fall out and is bleeding a bit im not sure what im supposed to do when it comes off because my first, Leilany, was just happens to be with my MIL when hers fell off and my MIL took care of it... so I never got a chance to take care of it so what im supposed to do when Tallulah's stump is coming off?

my MIL told me to put some alcohol on it but I saw somewhere on here long time ago that its not recommanded anymore so can someone clarify it for me?

It's normal to bleed a little. I just gave Tyler a bath and gentle wiped it. I heard of using alcohol, but i never did.

Yeah, my mom said when we were younger, she was told to put alcohol on it... But as soon as my cousin was born, they said to let it naturally dry out and fall off on it's own.

The best you can do is try to keep it dry but clean.. Alcohol can make it stay on longer

Your supposed to put alcohol on it everyday until it falls off. She can get an infection if you don't keep it clean. Alcohol also helps to dry it out.

That is what they told me to do with Ella's. They wanted me to alcohol it with every diaper change which I didn't b/c she would scream. But when it was ready to come off like that I used the alcohol and it helped a lot. She's 10 weeks old!

The nurse let me know that alcohol isn't necessary for cord care. You can allow it to dry on its own and fall off. After it falls off you really don't have to do anything.

Just let it fall off on it's own - I never used alcohol on my daughters, I just would gently wipe it off with a warm wet washcloth every time I changed her diaper. It only bled a little bit and for a day or 2. It looks a little scary, but if the area around the belly button isn't red, then it's fine.

I was told the opposite. The hospital my daughter was at had just stopped using alcohol on the cords because they said it was pointless.

My sons fell off in kinda in his diaper, my mom changed him and didnt roll it down, but it didnt bleed so just keep it clean so it doesnt get infected or anything. they only say dont put alcohol on it anymore because although it does help it dry out, its giving it wetness, not because it hurts it or anything from what i was told at the hospital with my son.

Actually, the reason they tell you not to use alcohol is because the baby's skin absorbs it and can make the baby sick. Alcohol can also delay the cord falling off, and it takes longer for the belly button to heal.

I cleaned my daughter's with alcohol, the hospital even gave me a crap load of alcohol wipes. I just cleaned it with alcohol twice a day (once in the morning, and once before bed- also if she had horrible poop and it went everywhere- that happened once, and some got on her bb, so I cleaned it with alcohol then too), otherwise I just cleaned it with a q-tip dipped in water.

When it fell off, I cleaned around the area with alcohol, and she was good to go! From what I can remember, she never bled the entire time.
