bump on head

Today my boyfriends mom and sister were over holding my lil baby (almost 2 weeks) and all of a sudden they were like ..whats this bump on her head/??!!! and starting to freak out. His mom was like.. You really need to take her in cuz the first thing I think is TUMOR!
And I'm just like........huh? Speechless.. pretty much.

I had her to the doc and he didn't mention anything.

She was down low in me for a long time and I heard they can get a big bump like this if they are down there in the canal... a long time before delivery. She has an appointment wed. so I'll just bring it up then but damn I hate when people freak out on me.. what do they want me to do?! freak out too?!

Anyone else's baby have a soft bump on the back of their head they were born with? I googled it (for now) and I read that it happens fairly often and that you just have to becareful of that area. Anyone have trouble with their babies bump or find out it was something else?

I would think hematoma.. it becomes a very hard knot over time! My little one has had it since birth and is 3 months old, its smaller but not gone... It looked like a goose egg at first. It was from a difficult delivery and I would think that if something was wrong they would have told you at your appointment!   They do a full physical of the babies when they are born as well, and if it was a bad thing they would have said so!   dont worry, I know it is hard but if you are really concerned make another appointment to have it checked out..

well its on the back of the head and it feels like a soft spot actually but its raised up. I seriously thought NOTHING of it until they freaked out.

my son has one where he got stuck im my pelvis...on is right side..it was soft and now its hard and if he didnt have hair that covered it, he'd look like gumby..

the only thing that im mad about is the doctor told me "it might go away"

what the smurf does might mean? it either does or it doesnt

oh wow. YEAAH thats the same thing that happened to me.. although I thought she had it on another part of her head.. and it had gone away and this was something else.. I think I was extremely groggy if I can't even remember..

What did they tell you it was? I'm assuming it doesn't cause harm..but does it EVER go away?

YES, I know, that is what a hematoma is, blood between the skull and skin and it hardens over time. I thought my baby had a second soft spot for a while...

well thats what I thought it was. I told my boyfriends mom.. " i think its a soft spot?" and then I felt like a retarded idiot when she said it wasn't?

I'm not super worried but I was just curious if it had a name or anything that you knew it.
So if its a hematoma, will she have that bump for the rest of her life if it hardens?

No it gets smaller over time. my babies did not go away yet and she is 3 months... I thought it was a soft spot as well. It even bulged when she cried! It looked horrible!!!   Just look up hematoma and you will see like on yahoo images or something and compare a picture.. My babies is on the top of her head towards the back like the back corner of her head i guess... It was huge though! It gets better...  

My son is 5 months and it hasnt gotten smaller or bigger...it just feels funny

my little guy has a hematoma too. He's only 18 days old so it's still fairly big, but i think it's slowly slimming down. Doc told me it would only take a month tho. Hopefully he's right. If not, there are worse things he could have had.

My baby was born with a cyst on the back on his head. Its about the size of a dime. The docs assured me it would go away with time but my son is almost 1 and it doesnt even seem to go down. Last time I took him to see a doctor I asked another ped to look at it and they said that if it doesnt go down soon that they would have to do surgery? Has anyone experienced the same thing?
