External Dilation

What is external dilation?

I have no freakin clue.......watching.

My dr brought it up tonight and Im just curious...I cant find it anywhere on google. It just keeps coming up with dilation....and but what the heck is outside dilation/external dilation????

When your cervix dangles outside your flaps and you can check dilation on it as if it were a wind sock...

but thats isnt happening to me. My dr checked me tonight and said Im one cm dilated and my external dilation is one finger tip and my cervix is really soft. I asked what it ment and he said labor is close....welp geez thanks doc what is close....tmrw or next week...haha

ooo! inkow i know! its because there are two side of the cervix and one side can be dialating but the other not...when i was induced i was 2cm ext. and 1 internal....

okay so its kinda like a layer and the first layer you were 2cm but the second one cm?

ummm more like a tube...like make a fist ..the side where your thumb and finger meet is external and the other side where the pinky is is internal...get it?!?

Part of your cervix is inside your uterus and the other side is outside of it.... External is what they are checking thru your vagina. Internal is what they see on an u/s. I may need a cerclage, so I have an u/s every week and they always tell me....cervix is ---cm long, internal is closed, external is closed. When you efface, it's the cervix thinning out....so think of a tube shrinking into a ring. I hope that makes sense. Give me a few and I'll find you some links.
