8 hours unrefridgerated, 5-7 days in the refridgerator, and frozen up to 5 months (?) I don't really know that one off hand!

My breastfeeding book says only up to 5 hours unrefridgerated. And my other books say up to 4. Are you sure about 8 hours?

Well, formula is the milk you aren't supposed to save. Breast milk stays fresh longer. If you make a bottle at room temp of formula you can refrigerate it up to 24 hours. If it is warmed you have to toss what is left over and not eaten. Also, formula is only good at room temp for up to 2 hours.
Breastfeeding is so worth it! Plus is stays good a lot longer

Well, the first thing you need to decide is are you going to try and pump some bottle before you have a few drinks or are you going to supplement with formula? I usually supplement with formula b/c my supply is exactly what my lil man eats so if I try to pump before hand I only get a couple ounces. Then depending on how many drinks you have will determine how long you have to wait before you can bf again. If you have only 1-2 drinks and you have them right after a feeding you should be fine at the next feeding time to breastfeed. If you have more than 2, you should wait at least 2 hours past your next feeding time. For example say youfed at 4pm the next feeding would prob be around 6pm (for a newborn) okay now if you had 5 drinks that would be approx. 10 hours past 6pm. Putting you at 4am when you can safely breastfeed. The rule at that point is if you feel sober and hydrated you can bf. If you still don't quite feel back to normal wait it out a little longer. However, if you have a night of heavy drinking your safe bet is to wait a full 24 hours before bfing and drink plenty of water to rehydrate. When you drink you DO NOT have to pump and dump! Lots of women will tell you that, but I just asked my laction consultant this question 2 months ago   She told me that your body constantly filters your milk, so even if you get really full that milk is still being filtered/cleaned every few minutes. The only reason to pump and dump is if you have had quite a few drinks and you get engorged and uncomfortable. Which when I drink I tend to get overly full and it's painful for me. So I do end up pumping and dumping b/c you can't save milk with alcohol in it   But if you can deal with it, there is no need to pump. Hope this wasn't too confusing...lol

Also, the amount of alcohol you can have that is safe to bf at your next feeding is as follows:
1-6 oz glass of wine (one glass of wine)
2-12 oz beers (two regular beers)
1-2 oz. of liquor (one small mixed drink)

any more than that you have to wait it out.

They have these test strips at babies r us (and other places i'm sure) that you can use to "test" your milk before you breastfeed again to make sure all the alcohol is gone!
