Steralization

posted 30th Aug
So, I've been thinking that it would be an excelent idea to have women (or men, really) steralized at birth, and then be given the opportunity to have kids when they prove themselves a worthy parent. Some sort of written and pratical test. Of course this is all hypothetical, because I know no such science exists, and it would be a HUGE infringement on civil rights

but, I think in theory it would make the world a better place. There wouln't be any overpopulation, and they children who are born would actually be wanted, and cared for and loved, because who would go though the trouble of taking the "parent test" for a kid they didn't want.

Ok, just a theory, (and I know its contraversial) whats your opinion?

great idea!! only problem is it could never fly, due to civil liberties and all, lol... but what a nice world that would be... then again imagine those psychos that would still be allowed to breed... ugh, there is no answer : (

It seems like so often it's the total losers who keep getting knocked up over and over again and they don't give a shit about their kids..... and then the people who would make amazing parents struggle with infertility..... it seems so unfair

OK I'll bite! I totally agree! Or people should have to take a class before they do breed! That way you could steralize all the ones that failed!

My friend and I had a convo like this the other day. It should be the guys that get clipped since they are genearlly the ones that run off and the moms are gnerally the ones that take responsiblity. We decided that their needed to be a test given so stupid people would stop having kids though. All the child abuse stories in the news are just tragic and horrid.

I think it is a great idea. I'm not sure our government would ever allow it though. This makes me think of a futuristic movie though. I wonder if they have made a movie from this idea lol

Heh, I've actually said the same thing, though I don't seriously advocate for it, because of the human rights violation.

Looking at it seriously, on one hand it seems great because it would cut down on most of the abuse and neglect and children would be being born to parents who truly wanted them, were stable enough in all areas to raise them, but conversely - the human rights aspect aside - you'd run into the issue of what criteria to set to determine who is eligible, who gets to determine this criteria, who gets to carry it out - are there elections? Is this a job people apply for? What do you do when underground clinics open up illegally reversing sterilizations? Would this cause an increase in children being kidnapped by people who want children but don't meet the criteria?

1. who would be the decision makers of who would be worthy? ( at the time when I was born my mom wouldnt have passed- too young, too poor.)2. Its the american welfare system that makes these women who are on maury povich "pop 'em out one after another." ( theres nothing wrong with help when you need it- but these women have 5 kids - dont know whos the daddy- and rely oneveryone else to provide everything!)

Marvelos idea..

Except for that pesky reversal. The chances of it working perfectly aren't very high. So, you may have proven yourself to be fit, but what if you couldn't HAVE children thanks to what happened against your will as a newborn?

Now, mandatory IUDs. sure

It wouldn't have anything to do with money, there are young poor people who make excelent parents. There are old, rich people who are horrible parents. I dont know what kind of criteria people would have to meet, but it'd be something like "if your child spills their milk, do you A) Give them a time out B) lock them in a closet C) beat them with an extension cord.

I know it would never work, but it'd be nice if it could. But of course it wouldn't for all the reasons God brought up. Crappy Civil Libberties

I wish we could sterelize bad parents. My sister recently found out she is pregnant again after pretty much abandoning her 2 other kids and hid from child support for about 2 or 3 years (they finally found her and she has to pay the state a couple grand in back child support now). She justifies leaving her 2 sons by saying she never really wanted them anyway.... and know she's kind of upset that it didn't take her very long to get pregnant (she was still wanting to party and probably still is) and she keeps saying this one had better be a girl.

Here's a basic run down of her lackluster parenting:

Anyway...I wish we could fix people proven to be bad parents at least until they learn basic parenting skills.I really hate people who constantly bring kids into the world because of the attention they get from being pregnant.....the world would be better off if people like my sister just wouldn't procreate.

Its kinda harsh, but thats how I feel...

So who gets to decide who is "worthy" or not to have children? The government?

Maybe a more plausible idea would be for there to be some sort of parenting classes, which, upon completion, parents get rewarded in some way. Just a random thought here.
