soy

posted 30th Aug
My son will be one in about 2 weeks. Hes been on soy formula since he was a few hours old because he was throwing up the milk based formula. I'm going to start him on milk at a year old, but which one should I use, the lactose free milk or the soy milk? any help or suggustions would be appreciated, thanks!

My daughetr had the same thing. When she turned one my doc and I discussed giving her regular milk and see how it goes and if not then she'd be on soy milk. She ended up doing fine on regular milk, but to this day at 3 and a half she perfers soy milk and it last much longer. I got a carton thats good until end of October!

I would ask the doctor. My son was breastfed for the first 4 months, and then kept having an allergic reaction once i switched him to formula, so he was on the soy until he was one. The doc suggested we try the whole milk to see how he handled it, and he still couldn't, so we were told to give him soy milk. He was on that for another year, and finally outgrew his allergy to the regular milk.

His doctor said to try the whole milk, but with just a sip of mine the other day he was very fussy and gassy. Since its a holiday weekend I won't be able to call, (they say its an emergency line) but I'm almost finished with the can of formula, so I figured I'd start him on the soy milk now. Do I give him the same amount as I would formula??

Thanks ladies, I swear you are better than doctors lol

I would give him the same amount. It should be just as gentle on his tummy. He'll probably prefer the flavor as well.
